“Peace direct is an international organization working with local people to stop violence and build sustainable peace. We put local people at the heart of everything we do. Since our founding in 2004, we have established ourselves as a champion of locally led efforts to prevent violent conflict and build lasting peace around the world. A recent independent review of peacebuilding organizations worldwide by porticus foundation ranked peace direct no. 2 in reach and influence globally, second only behind an international network of more than 150 organizations. We support local people on the frontlines of conflict who are preventing, responding and rebuilding after war. We support courageous local peacebuilders in 13 countries through long-term partnerships, networking, resource mobilization and shared learning.all of the programs we deliver are designed by or co-designed with our local partners and we have no overseas offices or expatriate staff. We actively advocate for and with our partners to shift policy and practice enabling international donors to better support locally led peacebuilding. We promote the work of local organizations and share our extensive research to influence high-level decisions related to international funding for peace and security, development aid and foreign policy decision-making. Our research team works directly with local partners and researchers to undertake cutting-edge, action-oriented studies to build a stronger evidence-base for locally led peacebuilding. Our seasoned advocacy staff maintain extensive networks and relationships with the united nations, and u.s. And uk governments, engaging key decision-makers regularly to inform and influence policy. Peace direct promotes the work of its partners and over 1,700 locally led peacebuilding initiatives through peace insight, a comprehensive digital platform showcasing local peacebuilding globally, and our online discussion website for peace practitioners, platform4dialogue. This platform enables local peacebuilders to engage directly with one another across the globe, building connections and sharing experiences and learnings. Additionally, platform4dialogue provides others in the peacebuilding community access to local perspectives to learn together and improve practice and policy. Peace direct engages a network of local peacebuilding experts (lpes) based in conflict areas, who maintain data on our peace insight website, provide updates and analysis on country developments, network with local peacebuilding groups and support our programs. Peace?direct's long-term goal is the substantial shift in power and resources to local actors working on the frontlines of conflict around the world, leading to a reduction in violent conflict in those contexts and more just, sustainable peace.peace direct's strategic plan focuses on expanding our global impact. Our work is critical to mobilizing vital resources enabling our partners to continue their work. Our vision of dynamic support to and in solidarity with our partners enables us to be nimble in our capacity to meet emerging needs, especially in times of crisis. We believe everyone can be a peacebuilder. Through our public engagement and digital communications outreach, we share inspiring stories of local peacebuilding, disseminate research and policy information, and mobilize individuals to take action with us in support of locally led peace. Our primary focus is on supporting, promoting and advocating for locally led peacebuilding. As part of our five-year strategy, we are expanding our work to support local peacebuilding in our own backyards, recognizing our responsibility to help undo the root causes of injustice and violence here in the us while we strive to reach all regions experiencing violence.”
“In prior years peace direct has reported all programming as one program. This year they are breaking items out individually to more accurately display their efforts and accomplishments.”
“Advocacy and research: mapping peacebuilding in the u.s.: since 2018, peace direct has mapped about 200 local peacebuilding groups across the u.s., a fraction of the full scope of people engaged in advancing peace with justice in their communities. We continue to add to this map and are developing data analytics that can help map violence in the u.s. Against the capacities for peace, providing both an active response tool and a measure of the gaps and needs for greater peacebuilding work across the country. "peace exchanges and strengthening networks": building on our mapping, we will hold online and in-person peace exchanges to share knowledge, network, collaborate, and activate projects together to address the escalating violence and structural conflicts plaguing the u.s. We will bring lessons from our 15 years of experience with local peacebuilders around the world to bear on our work here at home as we listen and follow the lead of local communities on the frontlines in this country. "transforming us policy at home and abroad": while we have always advocated for better us foreign policy that prioritizes peacebuilding over militarism, we will now also work with others to educate and advocate for policies that help undo racism and militarism here at home as well. This includes shifting resources from wasteful war spending to support real security for communities in the us and around the world. "latin america partnerships": as we grow our support for local peacebuilders worldwide, we are actively planning for new partnerships in south and central america in the years ahead, a region with some of the highest rates of violence globally and a thriving civil society with which to partner for peace. "changing policies at the un and in washington": we remain committed to creating more space for local voices within international policymaking and advocating alongside local peacebuilding partners for the needs and recommendations they themselves identify. As a leading voice within the peace and security field for locally led peacebuilding, we seek to help shift u.s. And un policies and programs toward greater recognition and support for local peacebuilding. We regularly create opportunities for local peacebuilders to interact directly with u.s., un and other international stakeholders. Our knowledge sharing will be done through our online platform (platform4dialogue), policy briefs, online briefings, and direct decision-maker engagement focused on the un and u.s. Government (executive and congress).”
“Support for peacebuilders: "mobilizing a movement": one of peace direct's primary objectives in the u.s. Is to build a broad-based public constituency who is informed, inspired, and activated to work for peace in their own communities, and in solidarity with others around the globe. Through our growing digital engagement and direct people-to-people connections, we are engaging new constituencies -- particularly young people -- to believe in the possibilities of peace and work actively toward them. In the u.s., this includes our peacebuilder allies program- we will empower a network of young adults and other activists to be local peacebuilders in their own communities and support others around the world, developing their knowledge and skills to build peace throughout their lives.”
