| In July 2014, Our BWB Italy trip was highlighted in the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper.http://archives.sfexaminer.com/sanfrancisco/a-baseball-trip-that-was-more-than-a-baseball-trip/Content?oid=2856954 In August 2014, BWB was featured about our Italy trip in a San Mateo newspaper, The Daily Journal. http://www.smdailyjournal.com/articles/sports/2014-08-23/baseball-without-borders-internationalizing-game/1776425128925.html#.In September of 2014, we were approached by representatives from the Mendocino High School about a return BWB baseball trip to Nicaragua for the high school team. This team was interested in BWB planning, organizing and traveling to Nicaragua during Spring Break in 2015. Our discussions turned into an agreement for a high school baseball team to travel to Nicaragua in April. This agreement also required BWB staff to travel to from Mendocino. Mendocino began the long road to fundraising for our April 2015 trip to Nicaragua. After that, our main goal was to collect and replenish the donate baseball equipment for the children of the baseball world. Our equipment was depleted after our Nicaragua/Costa Rica trip. In September 2014, we receive a donation of baseball equipment from the Baseball Buddies Foundation in San Jose, CA. Then, with the start of the baseball season, we began to receive baseball equipment from various Bay Area organizations (South San Francisco Youth Baseball, Handing Out Hope (Elk Grove) and again the Baseball Buddies Foundation). This equipment was designated for our Nicaragua delivery with the Mendocino High School team. As our Nicaragua trip approached, we continued to gather equipment from various sources to include the Jr. Giants and Chevron Oil. Our donations to the less fortunate of the world continued throughout the entire year.In March 2015, BWB was in the spotlight. Our organization was interviewed by United Airlines and also Comcast Sports Net. United Airlines helped sponsor by 39 bags of baseball equipment to Nicaragua in April 2014. This equipment traveled with BWB and Mendocino High School to Nicaragua during Spring Break. This equipment was divided between six towns in Nicaragua and one in Costa Rica. The bulk of this equipment was destined to the children of these countries. We were also interviewed by the Comcast Sports Net (CSN) program. BWB was highlighted because of the work that we have done throughout the world. This video program helped highlight a shipment of six bags (50lbs each) of baseball equipment that was donated to the children of Ghana, Africa. This equipment was transported by a group of teens going to visit Ghana to learn about the history of slavery. The group, Operation Genesis, delivered the equipment and was also featured in the CSN video. These videos can be seen on our website: http://bwbus5.wix.com/bwbfn; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jbp3ThwBlwQ; https://www.dropbox.com/sh/t0iw9qtw3rfhzwo/AAA28N0Tque6Y-Xq5315q7l1a/Baseball.Without.Boarder%202015.mov?dl=0However, during our April trip to Nicaragua, our Mendocino High School team played three games of baseball - in Granada, San Juan Del Sur, and Leon. On this trip, BWB donated baseball equipment to the U.S. Embassy Sports Diplomacy Program, the towns of Sebaco, Esteli, Granada, San Juan Del Sur and La Cruz, Costa Rica. In the short five days visit, we also toured the American Embassy, Managua, the Isleta de Granada, Zip-Lined (Canopy), visited the volcano of Masaya and toured the oldest church in the America's in Leon, Nicaragua. Our team was also featured in a local Nicaraguan newspaper.http://www.laprensa.com.ni/2014/08/05/deportes/206303-sin-fronteras-3BWB has continued to sponsor a 18U baseballl team in Granada, Nicaragua. We supply them with baseball equipment and financial support to purchase baseball uniforms.Upon our return from Nicaragua, we gathered once again for a final storytelling dinner in Mendocino, CA. One player shared a story about how he was in the outdoor market in Managua, and a little boy walked up to him. The little boy asked him if he would like to buy a flower. Our player said no. But when he saw that the little boy had no shoes, he asked him where his shoes were? The boy stated he has never owned a pair. Our player, with his last $20 walked this little boy to a store and bought him a pair. While our player was trying to tell this story, he was overcome with emotion and could not finish the story. These are the impacts on our players that BWB attempts to make. We want our players to think globally, not locally. These experiences will make our goal of helping our players to understand the needs of the world. These players were featured in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat newspaper. http://www.pressdemocrat.com/sports/3807711-181/benefield-mendocino-baseball-trip-to?artslide=0In May and June, BWB focused our efforts on renewing our depleted baseball supplied and attempting to build a baseball team for Nicaragua which never materialized. BWB has continued to network, outreach and support youth baseball organizations around the world. We are especially vigilant in the underserved countries such as in Mexico, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Ireland, Kosovo, the Ukraine, Ghana and in Zimbabwe. We have also been active in supporting the baseball program in Tema, Ghana, Africa. | $96,844 | - |
