Mission and Program Overview
Mission
Our mission is to make finding volunteer opportunities easy and relevant to their interests. Through our website, registered volunteers receive customized E blasts of nonprofit opportunities in their communities here in Connecticut. Key differentiator is our local focus and informing the local communities about the incredible service work done by many of our volunteers through social media and partnerships with traditional media. We are committed to building community through our weekly blogs and amazing high school interns who spearhead different projects in their communities. Nonprofits have benefited from our series of professional development lunch meetings which has expanded and strengthened our presence among the agencies. Lastly we served over 250 volunteers from our Corporate program. We engaged 4 new corporate clients.

Ned also shared that he and Julie have been working on a plan for Volunteer Square over the last two months and they shared that it's become increasingly difficult over the last couple of years to raise money for operating costs and with everything that's happened with Covid we feel like this is the time to shut down. We've had a wonderful 10 years and we are proud of everything that we've done to make an impact in local communities in Connecticut. We have two very strong programs, our internship program and our professional development program and it would be great to find an organization to adopt these programs if possible. Ned and Julie will continue to seek organizations to take over the website and internship and PD program through the end of the year. They will talk with Janet King, the Patch, Fairfield County Community Foundation and other interested organizations. Ned asked for a vote to discontinue Volunteer Square daily operations, effective June 30, 2021. Jim made a motion to discontinue Volunteer Square daily operations, Gavin seconded, and all agreed unanimously that this was the best decision for the organization to discontinue operations as of June 30, 2021. Ned thanked the board of directors for their service, vision and hard work over the last several years. Ned and the board thanked Julie for operating the organization since 2016. Sheryl made a motion to end the meeting, Gavin seconded, and all agreed unanimously to end the meeting at 10:45am. |
