“University of orange is a free school of restoration urbanism in orange, nj founded in 2008 and building on a 64-year history of progressive organizing in the city. We build collective capacity for our friends, neighbors, and partners to cultivate a just and equitable city. We offer free courses, work in local coalitions to promote education across the lifecycle, and advocate for equity in urban planning. We hold at once the recognition that racist and classist policies continue to shape cities everywhere, and that the resources we need to heal already exist within our neighborhoods.we solve the problems of our world by learning to see the richness of our cities, becoming lifelong learners, participating in civic life, and having fun with our neighbors.”

“Music city connects and supports musicians in and around orange. The program's long term goals include building social cohesion, enhancing civic engagement, launching local music economies, and exploring the ways music can help lay a path towards a healthier, more equitable city. We offer free community music classes, an instrument rental library, and a community musicology program and a concert series. In december of 2023 we hosted remembering rosa, featuring local choirs and dance companies, in collaboration with ebenezer baptist church and the orange public schools. It was attended by approximately 60 people and organized by a team of 5 community members. We launched two new concert series: the wind down, featuring local emerging artists, and music in the oranges, a collaboration with ebenezer baptist church, nia baptist church, and the faith+works uu congregation of orange.there were three wind down concerts with approximately 50 attendees at each and three music in the oranges concerts with approximately 120 attendees at each. In may of 2024 we organized the 8th annual music city festival, hosted in public spaces near restaurants throughout the city. The festival featured 65 musicians at three restaurant venues and one street fair, and drew an audience of 650 people. We launched a new project - a community steel pan band - by forming a new team, purchasing a set of six steel pan instruments, and planning for a august 2024 launch.”

“Urbanism: our restoration urbanism program offers many programs including teaching, workshops, reading groups and consultations. In the fall of 2023 we hosted two call your reps power half hours. In june we hosted root shock 20, a series of events over two days to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the publication of root shock: how tearing up city neighborhoods hurts america and what we can do about it including an online symposium, a library exhibit, and an afternoon of readings, reflections, music, and films. There were over 180 attendees over the two days. The bridge builder press and maggie ink project supports writing classes and publications. Through our maggie ink project we have offered multiple 10-week memoir-writing classes led by developmental editor susan hasho. This class is offered three times per year. Students from essex county are joined by students from cities all over the us and the world. The class is open to students of all ages.”

“Collective recovery: the university of orange collective recovery program shares our practice of collective recovery through teaching events and workshops. Collective recovery is a way for communities to heal from trauma. One way people heal is by overcoming isolation and making connections to the world around them. Throughout 2023 and 2024 we have supported the people's cdc. The people's cdc has 100 volunteer members who participate regularly. In january of 2024 we hosted a reading group of the long haul. We hosted monthly well-attended monthly solidarity potlucks with our community partners to connect with neighbors and visitors to orange.”

“Partner projects: we partner with local organizations, individuals, and initiatives on mission-aligned work. This year we were the fiscal sponsor for the "send a high schooler to ethiopia" fundraiser. We offered our fundraising platform to a community member raising money for an orange high school student to go to ethiopia for a basketball and cultural exchange program. We are partnering with the huub to develop the community campus and ben jones place. We dedicated a portion of our douglas farrand's time to leading the buildings and grounds team and developing infrastructure to support the huub's operations.”

Mr. Rivera-colon received his form 1099-nec on 26 january 2024.”
