Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

During 2024, seward community health center continued to strive to strengthen and expand services for our community. We saw a 4% decrease in patient visits compared to 2023 despite our proactive approach to managing chronic conditions by encouraging more frequent visits to support better long-term outcomes. A main barrier to growth was a higher-than-expected provider turnover, which directly impacts the number of patients served each day. Operationally, staff turnover in general has been higher than normal as well. Salary costs have continued to rise as we worked to remain competitive in healthcare staffing. Despite these higher costs along with ongoing increases in medical supplies reimbursements from government and commercial payors have not kept pace, leaving the organization operating at a financial break-even. Our sliding fee discount program, which provides reduced costs for patients with household incomes up to 200% of the federal poverty level for alaska, continued to play a critical role in improving access to care. In 2024, the program generated 77,572 in patient bill adjustments, a 40% increase over the prior year.

Schc is exempt from income taxes as a not-for-profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code (irc) and applicable income tax regulations of the state of alaska, except for net income from unrelated business, of which schc has none. Schc applies to the provisions of topic 740 of the fasb accounting standards codification relating to accounting for uncertainty in income taxes. Schc annually reviews its tax positions taken in accordance with the recognition standards. Schc believes that it has no uncertain tax positions which would require disclosure of adjustment in these financial statements.
