The mission of the organization is to serve the patients of shands lakeshore hospital with patience, kindness, friendliness, caring and concern. The volunteers for the organization are not paid. Profits from the operation of the gift shop are used to assist the hospital in providing the best care for their patients.

Members of the board of directors are elected by the members. Membership is open to anyone over the age of 18; however students may work with senior volunteers. There are two types of memberships; active and associate. Active members pay annual dues and pledge to devote 100 hours annually to the auxiliary. Associate members pay two times the annual dues, but take no active part nor have voting privileges.
