IRS990/Desc0Late in 2013, Secular Coalition for AZ contracted a professional lobbyist to lobby the AZ State Legislature during 2014 for legislation based on science and against legislation that seeks to incorporate religious values into state law. The Lobbyist played a key role in bringing the attention of the press and the business community to the true intent of a religious freedom bill which was to protect merchants from lawsuits if they refused to provide service or accommodations to homosexuals. Secular Coalition for AZ issued dozen of Action Alert messages to its member organizations about the negative consequences of this bill and the public attention helped convince the governor to veto the bill. The organization also rallied widespread support for a science based curriculum on sexual education for the public high schools in several districts. The organization also hosted a Lobby Day which brought members of the 16 secular organizations represented by the Secular Coalition for AZ to the State Capitol building.
