Form 990, Part III, Line 4D: Other Program Services Description

OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: OLIVE: AWI's short film collection, known as OLIVE or Online Library for Interactive Video and Engagement is arguably the most diverse library of short films about behavioral health issues available, with our collection addressing more than 55 mental health issues. Examples of topics represented include diagnoses such as depression and anxiety as well as cultural realities such as stigma around mental illness in the Black and Latinx communities. The collection continues to grow through an ongoing film competition for which there is no submission fee and a $1,000 USD award for the monthly winner. Films in OLIVE range from first person, documentary- style pieces to metaphorical storytelling. During the 2018 fiscal year, 153 films were entered into the competition and 9 were added to the library.

IRS990/Desc0M4MH: Hosted by colleges and universities throughout the U.S., Movies for Mental Health is a two-hour workshop where students watch four films from OLIVE (AWI's diverse Online Library for Interactive Video and Engagement), discuss them, and then hear from a panel of mental health resources. Through film, these workshops encourage reflective dialogue around often taboo topics and proactive steps to seeking mental health support. These workshops aim to create an open and inclusive environment. During the 2018 fiscal year, AWI more than doubled the number of workshops we offered, hosting 57 Movies for Mental Health workshops in California,Connecticut, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. 2,653 students were served through this program with post-workshop evaluations indicating that 91% of participants engaged in these workshops agreed that the stigma around mental health was reduced, while 98% of participants indicated these workshops did create awareness around this important topic. More importantly, 71% of students surveyed said that they were more likely to seek support for their own mental well being as a direct result of this program.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0OLIVE: AWI's short film collection, known as OLIVE or Online Library for Interactive Video and Engagement is arguably the most diverse library of short films about behavioral health issues available, with our collection addressing more than 55 mental health issues.
