“The form 990 is prepared by a third party cpa. The return is provided to the ceo and director of finance who review and provide the form to the board of directors via email for review. Once approved, the cpa prepares the return for signature and efiling with the internal revenue service.”
“Every officer, board member, and employee is required to state annually if they have any conflict of interests. Potential conflicts of interest are monitored by the ceo.”
“The organization considers outside data when determining compensation for the ceo. Compensation is established and voted on by independent members of the board of directors. Determinations are documented in writing.”
“The organization makes its governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements available to the public upon request.”
“"volunteers assist with the packaging of all products that are shipped to mercy house global. For the 5 subscription clubs, volunteers package the items, seal the boxes, and affix mailing labels. The volunteers prepare approximately 2,000 boxes each month and handle and package over 5,000 items monthly for the subscription clubs. Others assist with organizing and staffing fundraisers, including setup, teardown, meal service, and decor. Board members volunteer on occasion when available. Mercy house also works with many large groups to provide volunteer projects, including five local chapters of national charity league and young men's service league that volunteer monthly.”
“Mercy house global sponsors three maternity homes in kenya called the rehema rescue center foundation, a local non-governmental organization. The program provides hope and support to vulnerable young girls who have become pregnant through desperate and often violent circumstances. In 2024, mercy house global rescued six pregnant girls and saw six new babies born. Between 2010 and 2024, 90 girls have been rescued and 89 babies have been born at rehema house. At the three residential homes in kenya, the teen moms receive weekly trauma-informed individual and group counseling. Beyond meeting physical needs, the programs provide for spiritual discipleship and educational training. Tutors provide the girls with a basic education with a goal to reintegrate them back to school or to transition them to a vocational job program once their children reach the age of two. When the girls reach this transition point, mercy house global's sponsorship program provides for their school fees, uniforms, and books, as well as for their children's education. Vocational training ensures that the teen moms do not end up homeless or victims of human trafficking after their time at rehema house. The girls are introduced to a variety of vocational skills including hairdressing, salon skills, technology, music classes, baking, cooking, and sewing.”
“Mercy house global assists vulnerable families in developing countries by teaching them artisan trades as well as creating distribution avenues for their goods to be sold. Providing the families with reliable income for their families prevents homelessness, food scarcity, and becoming victims of human trafficking, and allows them to help support their own families and communities. Mercy house global sells the artisans' products in online and physical retail stores, as well as through five subscription clubs called mhg clubs. There are four monthly clubs consisting of more than 2000 subscribers, and one quarterly club which has a subscriber base of about 900. The items featured in these clubs empower women from all over the globe, consisting of over 50 groups in approximately 30 countries and countless artisans. For these vulnerable families, the support of mercy house global and the sales of their products is helping them be able to provide for themselves and their families with dignity.”
“The local hope program supports vulnerable families (refugees, trafficking survivors) by providing encouragement, training, and education as they settle into their new lives in houston, texas. In 2024, mercy house global conducted more approximately 100 in-home visits to 2 refugee families, assisting them with tasks such as job searches, healthcare, and school registration. The local hope program welcomes over 35 refugees and their children to our weekly esol classes that are free of charge, as well as our quarterly empowerment lunches that help build skills and community. The esol ministry team practices conversational english through weekly esol classes, meal and grocery assistance through a partner food pantry, and answers questions about daily life in america. Two women who are refugees participated in the product training program and learned new skills that they used to support their families. In 2024, mercy house global prepared to welcome our second in-house human trafficking survivor to participate in the local hope program. She is expanding her artisan skills, as well as her personal and developmental skills, which will be necessary as she plans to achieve her future goals and dreams. In 2024, mercy house global also expanded our women's empowerment lunches to include survivors of trafficking, and we have served approximately 20 women at each luncheon. These luncheons help build transferable skills, community partnership,s and networking opportunities among the women.”
