Governance Explanations

Form 990 governing body review Part VI line 11

Upon completion of the 990 by independent cpa, a copy is given to the executive director for review and approval. The executive director upon receipt of the tax form then schedules a meeting with members of the organizations finance committee to review the form. Questions if any are then presented to the accountant for clarification. Upon satisfactory clarification of all questions, the 990 is approved by the committee and the accountant is instructed to finalize the return.

The issue of whether a conflict of interest exist is routinely considered during board meetings when the board is engaged in discussion relating to activities conducted by the organization, entering into a contract, hiring personnel, etc.

IRS990/Desc0Awarded over $43K in scholarships to 19 students from Fairfield County pursuing post-secondary education, including college and vocational training programs. 6 scholarships in the amount of $4k and 13 $1,500 scholarships were awarded to past recipients for continued financial support of acedemic pursuits. We hosted a family Wellness program in Fairfield County focused on increasing awareness of preventative healthcare and providing access to health and wellness resources for underserved populations. We continued our partnership with middle schools in Bridgeport to provide after-school programs that served 20-30 students annually in grades 6 through 8. The program exposes participants to the arts, promotes civic engagement and addresses health and wellness topics.
