IN 2022, WITH THE CHALLENGES OF COVID BEING BEHIND US, WE CONTINUE TO DILIGENTLY WORK TO PROVIDE QUALITY CARE FOR BOYS IN THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM. YOUTHS WHO ENTER OUR PROGRAM NEED THE SERVICES AND SUPOORT OF RESIDENTIAL BUT STRUGGLE IN THE CHAOTIC ENVIRONMENT OF TRADITONAL RESIDENTIAL SETTING. HOC PRIDES ITSELF IN PROVIDING A CALM, HOME-LIKE ENVIRONMENT WHERE YOUTH CAN GET THE TREATMENT TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES THAT BROUGHT THEM INTO RESIDENTIAL CARE.HOC ACCEPTS YOUTHS FROM DIVERSE SOCIOECONOMIC BACKGROUNDS,WITH A RANGE OF MENTAL HEALTH DIAGNOSES, SUBSTANCE ABUSE ISSUES AND THOSE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED SOME FORM OF TRAUMA THAT HAS RESULTED IN THEM BEING PLACED IN FOSTER CARE. IN 2022, THE HOUSE OF COMPASSION PROVIDED 4,167 BED DAYS TO 25 YOUTHS.THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FOR HOC, IN 2022, WAS STATE MANDATED BILLING PRACTICE CHANGES. THESE CHANGES MANDATED THAT RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES BILL INSURANCE PROVIDERS FOR PARTIAL PAYMENT OF YOUTHS IN THIS PROGRAM. AS A RESULT MANY FACILITIES HAVE PERMANENTLY CLOSED THEIR DOORS. THESE MANDATES HAVE IMPACTED OUR BUDGETS DUE TO STRUGGLES IN RECEIVING CONSISTENT AND TIMELY PAYMENTS; HOWEVER, HOC REFUSES TO ALLOW THIS TO PREVENT YOUTHS FROM RECEIVING QUALITY CARE AND CONTINUES TO WORK TO NAVIGATE THROUGH THIS ISSUE. IN 2022, HOC RECEIVED A TECHNOLOGY GRANT FROM THE CHILDRENS SERVICES FUND IN ORDER TO ENHANCE TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS AND COMMUNICATION WITHIN HOC. FURTHER, A FACILITY IMPROVEMENT GRANT FROM THE CHILDRENS TRUST FUND WAS RECEIVED THAT WAS USED TO ENHANCE THE LIVING ENVIRONMENT FOR THE YOUTHS IN THE PROGRAM.TO ADDRESS THE ADDITIONAL DEMAND FOR IN-HOUSE MEALS DUE TO THE CESSATION OF THE SCHOOL BASED BREAKFAST AND LUNCH PROGRAMS, HOC PARTNERED WITH HARVESTORS (A LOCAL NOT-FOR-PROFIT FOOD BANK) RESULTING IN QUALITY MEALS FOR THE YOUTHS AT A REDUCED COST FOR THE ORGANIZATION. TOTAL MEALS SERVED IN 2022 WAS 8,974.IN 2021, HOUSE OF COMPASSSION WAS ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ACCREDITATION SURVEY THROUGH THE COMMISSION ON ACCREDITATION OF REHABILITATION FACILITIES (CARF) AND IN SEPTEMBER 2021, SUCCESSFULLY ACHIEVED THE THREE-YEAR ACCREDITATION STATUS, WHICH IS THE HIGHEST LEVEL THAT COULD BE ACHIEVED. HOC HAS MAINTAINED ACCREDIDATION STATUS AND WILL BE DUE FOR RE-ACCREDITATION IN SEPTEMBER 2024. SUBSEQUENT TO ACHEIVING ACCREDITATION STATUS, HOC OBTAINED THE STATE REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME A QUALIFIED TREATMENT FACILILITY (QTRP)AND WAS GRANTED A SIX YEAR QRTP STATUS IN DECEMBER 2021. THIS WAS A SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENT THAT OTHER LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS HAVE NO YET ACHIEVED AND ALLOWS THE ORGANIZATION TO CONTINUE TO BE A VALUABLE RESOURCE AND ADVOCATE FOR MISSOURI YOUTH IN THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEMIN 2022, HOC ASSISTED WITH SUCCESSFUL TRANSITION OF ONE OLDER YOUTH TO A TRANSITIONAL LIVING PROGRAM WITHIN THE COMMUNITY AND FIVE OTHER YOUTHS INTO A REDUCED LEVEL OF CARE, INCLUDING FOSTER HOMES, RELAIVE PLACEMENTS, OR BEING REUNITED WITH THEIR BIOLOGICAL FAMILY.HOUSE OF COMPASSION ACHIEVED A 100% GRADUATION RATE FOR SENIORS WHO RESIDED IN THE HOME FOR THE FULL YEAR COMPARED TO 75% IN THE COMPARABLE SCHOOL DISTRICT.IN THE SUMMER OF 2022, THE RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM PARTICIPATED IN A VARIETY OF OUTINGS WITHIN THE COMMUNITY INCLUDING GOING TO SKYZONE, BOWLING,MOVIES, A VISIT TO THE ZOO, AND A TRIP TO WORLDS OF FUN, ALL WAYS TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE NORMALCY TO THE YOUTHS IN OUR PROGRAM.
