Form 990, Part I, Line 22

Due to rounding and to properly tie out financials, Prior Year is $1 less than reported in the Current Year section of the 2017 Form 990.

Form 990, Part III, Line 2

In academic year 2018-2019 AIE - LA added an Associates in Occupational Studies (AOS) to its Game Programming track. The AOS of Game Programming is a concise, comprehensive, and intensive two-year career track providing students with skills necessary to obtain an entry level position in the gaming industry. AIE believes that adding the AOS to its offered programs will add value to a student's training and produce a better prepared job candidate for potential employers.

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Part VI, Line 1C

Leasehold improvements are depreciated over the term or remaining term of the lease starting the date the expense was incurred.

Schedule D, Part VI, Line 1D

AIE- LA uses straight-line depreciation on fixed assets as follows: Computers and computer equipment - 2 years; Software - 3 years; Furniture - 5 years.

Schedule D, Part X, Line 2

U.S. GAAP requires the Organization's management to evaluate tax positions taken by the Organization and recognize a tax liability if the Organization has taken an uncertain position that more likely than not would be sustained upon examination by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The Organization has analyzed the tax positions taken by the Organization and believes there are no uncertain positions taken or expected to be taken that would require recognition of a liability or disclosure in the consolidated financial statements. U.S. GAAP also requires that all entities disclose the years for which its tax returns remain open for examination by the IRS. The IRS does not require the Organization to file tax returns on Form 990, "Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax". However, the IRS could audit the Organization; should this occur, presumably the IRS would do so with respect to years no earlier than 2016.

Schedule D, Part XI, Line 4B

The following expense amount has been netted against gross revenue presented in 990 Part VIII Line 12: $45,099 in scholarships awarded.

Schedule D, Part XII, Line 4B

The following expense amount has been netted against total expenses presented in 990 Part IX Line 25 Column A: $45,099 in scholarships awarded.

IRS990/Desc0The Academy of Interactive Entertainment - LA (AIE - LA) was founded in 2010 to provide world-class education in 3D animation, game programming, and digital visual effects. AIE - LA offers three certificate programs and one Associates in Occupational Studies (AOS), including: 1. Advanced Diploma of Professional Game Development - Game Art & Animation (CIP Code 11.0803). 2. Advanced Diploma of Professional Game Development - Game Programming (CIP Code 11.0804). 3. Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media - 3D Animation & VFX for Film (CIP Code 10.0304). 4. AOS of Game Programming (CIP Code 11.0804). The Advanced Diploma courses were developed to support industry needs, driven by extensive consultation with local and international game development studios and visual effects professionals. Each Advanced Diploma is a two-year full-time course, providing individual and team centric training in the processes of developing the competencies and skills necessary to gain employment with game and film studios, related industries, and the development of graduates' independent games. In academic year 2018-2019, AIE - LA had 71 students enrolled in its courses. Game artists design the environments, create the characters and craft the vehicles for the game. They can specialize in modeling, texturing, animation, and level design. Developing game art utilizes a dynamic medium that showcases creative ability. Students work with other artists and programmers to design and create their own unique entertainment experiences using cutting-edge game technology. Game programmers drive the game development process, creating the framework, functionality and interaction in the game. As the essential ingredient in the development process, game programmers are highly valued and in high demand. In contrast to Game Art, 3D Animation & VFX for Film students acquire skills necessary to develop exciting careers in game development, film, and TV. It is a practical course designed to give students top-tier technical training to work as 3D artists using the latest state-of-the-art technology.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0During the fiscal year, AIE - LA delivered 12 weeks of Summer Camps to approximately 125 high school students. AIE - LA in collaboration with University of Louisiana - Lafayette (ULL), and Delgado Community College made these camps available to students entering grades 9 through 12. Summer Camp is geared toward high school students seeking knowledge in 3D animation and computer programing for video games. Camps are one week in length and promote school exposure to the community it serves and is an introduction to courses students will enjoy at the college level. Successful Summer Camps are important to the school's purpose and mission as they are often the first contact students have with the school and its staff.

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0Leasehold improvements are depreciated over the term or remaining term of the lease starting the date the expense was incurred.
IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1AIE- LA uses straight-line depreciation on fixed assets as follows: Computers and computer equipment - 2 years; Software - 3 years; Furniture - 5 years.
IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt2U.S.
