The Foundation received contributions dedicated to the development of a history of the Regional Academic Health Center and its evolution into the School of Medicine located within The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. The history project will include a gathering of documents from participants in the development of the RAHC and School of Medicine, oral and videotaped interviews of key participants, the production of a historical archive including a catalog of documents and interviews, and the publication of a written history.

Throughout 2012, trustees of South Texas Medical Foundation attended meetings with elected officials, business leaders, and civic organizations throughout the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas to inform and educate regarding the required actions to expand the medical education programs of the RAHC and to accomplish the conversion of the RAHC into a four-year medical school. The South Texas Medical Foundation solicited and obtained a grant from the Development Corporation of Harlingen, Inc. to partially fund the public education efforts including the retention of a consultant contractor.
