The goal in generating an economic model to estimate the financial impact of suboptimal preanalytic processing of patient biospecimen samples in oncology to ensure patient safety and the accuracy of biomarker test results. Given the uncertainty and data gaps existing to estimate the rate of suboptimal preanalytic processing, this model will explore different scenarios to understand the financial impact of a different set of assumptions around specimen quality. This initial model would take two key perspectives, payer and societal, given the probable costs data availability. Although healthcare systems and patients will undoubtedly benefit from improved and standardized processes for obtaining, handling, and processing samples, we propose that those may require less immediately accessible data.”
