“The mission of the corporation is, that: we are committed to the public welfare of new mexicans through the establishment of quality, competency- based certification programs for professionals engaged in the prevention and treatment of addictions and related problems. Our objectives are to create and maintain a community-based support system for behavioral professionals. To administer oral and written examinations, to evaluate candidates and to issue credentials to behavioral health professionals. To provide resources and continuing education to behavioral health professionals to enable them to expand their knowledge and improve their skills. To review complaints of unprofessional and unethical conduct by practitioners and to impose sanctions when appropriate.”

“Over the past three years we have certified over 200 peer specialists workers, 65 certified peer family specialists, and 10 certified prevention specialists for the state of new mexico. The nmcbbhp has approved continuing education credits for the nm behavioral health services department, santa fe community college, the life link, the new mexico prevention network, the new mexico prevention training system, the nm office of substance abuse prevention, the new mexico teen courts, and others. We provide on-going technical certification guidelines and assistance to the behavioral health field in new mexico.”
