“990-EZ, Part 1, Line 8 represents the amount collected as Shipping & Handling.”
“990-EZ, Part 1, Line 16 represents expenditures for credit-sale processing fees, old books purchased for resale, research-related dues and subscriptions, liability insurance, royalties paid to authors (and reported on Form 1099), and volunteer and donor recognition.”
“990-E, Part II, Line 24(A) represents Inventory (29,485), Furniture & Fixtures (815), and Advances on Professional Fees (8,525). Line 24(B) represents Deposits (!00), Inventory (25,566), Furniture & Fixtures (815), and Advances on Professional Fees (5,681).”
“990-EZ, Part II, Line 26(A) represents Sales Tax Collected (less Sales Tax Paid)(446) and Advance Payments (deposits and reservations)(11,454). Line 26(B) represents Sales Tax Collected (less Sales Tax Paid)(78) and Advance Payments (deposits and reservations)(2,199).”
“Line 28: During a typical calendar year, Antietam Historical Association issues five (5) or six (6) four-page newsletters, one (1) journal, fifteen (15) to twenty (20) email bulletins, and one (1) hardbound special book. The Covid-19 pandemic depressed these number, but AHA has begun returning to its pre-pandemic operations effective April 1, 2022. Line 29: During a typical year, AHA's two monthly study groups, the Potomac Street Irregulars and Third Thursday Biography Breakfast, meet to study crime in local history and the lives of deceased local residents, respectively. A third study group, the Antietam Ramblers, take field trips when weather permits. The Covid-19 quarantine prevented these groups from meeting during 2021. The crime study group's objective is to discover crimes committed in the region drained by Antietam creek, analyze them in order to create a better understanding of what causes crime and how to combat it. Their findings are published. The biography breakfast group studies a cross-section of persons who have dwelt in the region; subjects are not restricted to well-known or prominent persons. This creates a better understanding of the total demographic of the community. Line 30: The time and resources spent on free research assistance varies greatly from month to month and case to case. All expenses listed in Part III are estimates of how expenses are apportioned across the several Program Services. All of these Programe Services are designed to promote the organization's basic mission: to educate people through a meaningful interpretation of the history of the region in Maryland and Pennsylvania drained by Antietam creek and thus create a better world. Line 31: During an ordinary year, AHA sponsors two (2) bus trips; however, this service was suspended during 2020 and 2021.”
“During 2021, the Covid-19 quarantine depressed the number of hours each person devoted to the organization.”

| IRS990ScheduleA/FactsAndCircumstancesTestTxt | 0 | Part II, Line 17a: Antietam Historical Association (AHA) seeks support from the general public through direct mail solicitation, personal contact, social media solicitations, networking with other not-for-profit historical and community organizations, and participating in festivals and other public events. AHA actively pursues broad public support through our website (currently being reconstructed) and our Facebook page in addition to periodic mass mailings or emails. AHA's governing body consists of four (4) persons of both genders who are well-known in the territory which AHA serves. During the past five (5) years, donations to AHA have come from numerous individuals both inside and outside the community we serve, from a private foundation, a visitors bureau, and a fraternal club. AHA's gross receipts from related business activities are largely from regional historical book sales and are offset by the cost of goods sold. AHA is organized as a non-member corporation, so it recognizes donors by naming them "Fellows of AHA" on our published lists of donors. AHA recommends a minimum annual contribution of $25, with higher levels having thresholds of $50, $100, and $250. The higher levels of giving are named for deceased local philanthropists. In 2021, individual support consisted of donations ranging from $25 to $20,250. AHA conducts events designed for a cross-section of the public, from free study groups to an annual dinner meeting. AHA also publishes scholarly and artistic regional books which appeal to a broad segment of the population, and which AHA discreetly makes available to those who cannot afford them at the retail price. Furthermore, the generosity of its supporters has enabled AHA to distribute its books gratis to schools in two (2) counties. Although the AHA board of directors is small, yet the Association encourages, and experiences, broader participation through various roles in study groups and through volunteer work in our program of collecting, preserving, and digitizing local historical information. AHA's office/library is open to donors and non-donors alike, and our staff assists visitors with research projects and partners with them in digitizing their own historical holdings. AHA also helps disseminate information about the activities of other historical groups in the region, which we feel may be of benefit to our donors and the general public. |

| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 4 | Line 28: During a typical calendar year, Antietam Historical Association issues five (5) or six (6) four-page newsletters, one (1) journal, fifteen (15) to twenty (20) email bulletins, and one (1) hardbound special book. Line 31: During an ordinary year, AHA sponsors two (2) bus trips; however, this service was suspended during 2020 and 2021. |
