The THOREAU ELEMENTARY PTO INC serves as a parent-teacher organization that exists to foster a greater sense of community by increasing access to the school in an all inclusive approach for families and specifically the children in our community.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
The vast majority of our annual service accomplishments focused on our students' basic safety, emotional and physical health as such directly affected their ability to learn. The Thoreau PTO board directed the extraordinary funds donated to the PTO after March 12, 2020 to a Relief to Educational Barriers Fund during the initial months of the COVID 19 emergency. These funds were used to assist students and their families with financial needs such as food, homelessness and eviction prevention, funding to keep phone and internet services, purchasing enrichment activities, household/personal hygiene supplies, transportation, child care and other expenses that had a direct impact on the health and security of our students. The board worked closely with our principals, teachers and social workers to determine how funds could best be directed.$40,642$0

IRS990ScheduleA/Form990ScheduleAPartVIGrp/ExplanationTxt0Aside from this most recent fiscal year 2019-2020, THOREAU ELEMENTARY PTO INC hasn't had gross receipts in the vicinity of $50,000. According to the records that I have been able to review, our organization had no previous donations from any one donor that crossed the $5000 threshold. Therefore, I have entered generic estimates for years 2015 to 2018 that represent the affidavits filed via 990-N for the same.

ReasonableCauseExplanation/ExplanationTxt0Three factors have contributed to what I hope is reasonable cause for late filing. First, the extraordinary circumstances presented by COVID-19 since March 2020 have been a burden like no other in my lifetime. Second, THOREAU ELEMENTARY PTO INC is a 100% volunteer-run organization; my day job as a Mechanical Engineer for GE Healthcare's Datex-Ohmeda Anesthesia and Respiratory Care business was extraordinarily burdensome considering the global demand of our Respiratory Ventilator products. Third, and finally, my ignorance regarding the requirements for filing a form other than the 990-N because our organization hasn't previously been above the $50,000 gross receipts threshold. While the outpouring of support from our community was a blessing, it obviously added additional work during a year like no other. I would very humbly appreciate your understanding. Thank you!
