Mission

The Neighborhood Advocacy Center provides essential legal and social work services to parents and families involved in child welfare cases through a client-centered, holistic model of representation. The Neighborhood Advocacy Center operates as a multidisciplinary legal office that addresses the various barriers blocking parents from improving their lives and maintaining custody of their children. The Neighborhood Advocacy Center's goal is to increase family reunifications and placement of children with family to prevent the unnecessary placement and prolonged stay of children in foster care.

The mission of the Neighborhood Advocacy Center is to holistically support, advance and defend the basic human rights of low-income and vulnerable families in our community who are at risk of termination of parental rights.

The Neighborhood Advocacy Center provides indigent families involved in abuse, neglect, dependency and termination of parental rights proceedings in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina free legal and social work services through a client-centered, holistic model of representation. The Neighborhood Advocacy Center seeks to reunify families where the children have been removed from the home by the Department of Social Services and to prevent the unnecessary placement and prolonged stay of children in foster care. At any given time, the Neighborhood Advocacy Center represents approximately seventy-five (75) clients. The Neighborhood Advocacy Center provides free legal and social work services through a client-centered, holistic model of representation. That model includes a Managing Attorney and Social Worker. In addition to representing clients in the courtroom, the Managing Attorney also runs the Family Advocacy Clinic, where law students from the Charlotte School of Law intern for the Neighborhood Advocacy Center under the supervision of the Managing Attorney. The law student interns work closely with the Managing Attorney and provide legal services to the Neighborhood Advocacy Center's clients. The Charlotte School of Law pays the Neighborhood Advocacy Center directly for the Managing Attorney's teaching services at the Family Advocacy Clinic.$27,500$27,500

The Neighborhood Advocacy Center donated $200.00 to Justice Initiatives, who, in partnership with the Council for Children's Rights, hosted the 2014 Summer Youth Program. The Summer Youth Program provided youth involved in the Mecklenburg County, North Carolina juvenile justice system an opportunity to visit various local and national colleges, universities, and museums while on summer break from school.

The Neighborhood Advocacy Center provides families involved in abuse, neglect and dependency cases with legal representation and social work advocacy through a client-centered, holistic model of representation. This holistic model seeks to address the various barriers blocking parents from improving their lives and maintaining custody of their children. The Neighborhood Advocacy Center's team is composed of a Managing Attorney, Social Worker, and unpaid law student interns. The Neighborhood Advocacy Center's services are provided at no cost to the clients. The Neighborhood Advocacy Center performs its work for the social good of keeping families together and preventing children from prolonged stays in foster care. The Summer Youth Program provided youth involved in the Mecklenburg County, North Carolina juvenile justice system an opportunity to visit various local and national colleges, universities, and museums while on summer break from school.

This holistic model seeks to address the various barriers blocking parents from improving their lives and maintaining custody of their children. The Neighborhood Advocacy Center's team is composed of a Managing Attorney, Social Worker, and unpaid law student interns. The Neighborhood Advocacy Center's services are provided at no cost to the clients. The Neighborhood Advocacy Center performs its work for the social good of keeping families together and preventing children from prolonged stays in foster care.
