“Part 110 Grants and similar amounts paid The David Germaine Memorial Fund made charitable donations to three 501c3 organizations in 2018 Please see below additional detail on what each charitable donation entailed as we feel each one lives up to our mission statement of honoring the life of David Anderson Germaine through worthy endeavors in academics athletics leadership and social service 1 Donors Choose our donations funded five school classroom projects across the Boston area which are posted by teachers directly to the Donors Choose website we fulfilled the remaining funding requirement for the following projects -Pauline Shaw Elementary School Dorchester MA The literacy center materials in this project are designed to help children learn letters and associate letter sounds discriminate sounds that letters make in the beginning or end of words hear and match words that rhyme and begin the important work of decoding and spelling new words These are the foundational skills that all readers need These bright durable materials would be a great asset in helping my special little students overcome speech language delays developmental delays and Autism Spectrum Disorders -Josiah Quincy Elementary School Boston MA First grade class is made up of twenty- five first graders who are all English language learners and come in each day eager to learn Many of the students are children of immigrant parents who do not speak English and are able to provide them with limited academic support My classroom is in need of a carpet where all the magic and learning fun can happen Many of my students are English Language Learners and struggle with expressing themselves I know first hand how difficult and daunting it can be to find the right words or have the confidence to share aloud when English is not your first language having been an English Language Learner myself I am requesting 2 iPads so I can have students practice and develop their vocabulary reading and writing skills so students can learn in a fun and interactive manner My goal is to provide students opportunity to use technology to reinforce and provide students further exposure to English iPads allow students to develop their English in an authentic manner that is interactive and enjoyable -Mildred Avenue School Mattapan MA Students are a mix of Boston natives 1st and 2nd generation immigrants and newcomers to this country They receive small group pullout support in order to mediate targeted learning gaps and service the special needs of their individual plans They are a driven group of young people who appreciate the small group support they receive I am requesting 4 iPads along with accompanying necessary accessories to use daily in my special education resource room pull out groups Tablet education has already proved to provide innovative learning experiences that special learners deserve access to I intend to design a curriculum supplemented by applications that provide hands on interactive literacy and numeracy activities My students need this in order to build and reinforce their knowledge of crucial foundational skills before its too late -Charlestown High School Chemistry students love collaborating and learning together in Chemistry Throughout Chemistry there are many opportunities for students to expand their knowledge beyond the classroom Typically students only have access to the materials we have in the classroom however with chromebooks students can do research beyond the classroom and bring their culture into the classroom Students can make connections to their culture and explain how chemistry is relatable to events directly impacting their life and future environmental issues They can see and show experiences from their culture to others making worldwide connections Students can read current articles watch videos to enhance their learning experience draw conclusions and more to help discover solutions to real life problems -Orchard Gardens Pilot School Roxbury MA Foc”

| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 0 | Part 110 Grants and similar amounts paid The David Germaine Memorial Fund made charitable donations to three 501c3 organizations in 2018 Please see below additional detail on what each charitable donation entailed as we feel each one lives up to our mission statement of honoring the life of David Anderson Germaine through worthy endeavors in academics athletics leadership and social service 1 Donors Choose our donations funded five school classroom projects across the Boston area which are posted by teachers directly to the Donors Choose website we fulfilled the remaining funding requirement for the following projects -Pauline Shaw Elementary School Dorchester MA The literacy center materials in this project are designed to help children learn letters and associate letter sounds discriminate sounds that letters make in the beginning or end of words hear and match words that rhyme and begin the important work of decoding and spelling new words These are the foundational skills that all readers need These bright durable materials would be a great asset in helping my special little students overcome speech language delays developmental delays and Autism Spectrum Disorders -Josiah Quincy Elementary School Boston MA First grade class is made up of twenty- five first graders who are all English language learners and come in each day eager to learn Many of the students are children of immigrant parents who do not speak English and are able to provide them with limited academic support My classroom is in need of a carpet where all the magic and learning fun can happen Many of my students are English Language Learners and struggle with expressing themselves I know first hand how difficult and daunting it can be to find the right words or have the confidence to share aloud when English is not your first language having been an English Language Learner myself I am requesting 2 iPads so I can have students practice and develop their vocabulary reading and writing skills so students can learn in a fun and interactive manner My goal is to provide students opportunity to use technology to reinforce and provide students further exposure to English iPads allow students to develop their English in an authentic manner that is interactive and enjoyable -Mildred Avenue School Mattapan MA Students are a mix of Boston natives 1st and 2nd generation immigrants and newcomers to this country They receive small group pullout support in order to mediate targeted learning gaps and service the special needs of their individual plans They are a driven group of young people who appreciate the small group support they receive I am requesting 4 iPads along with accompanying necessary accessories to use daily in my special education resource room pull out groups Tablet education has already proved to provide innovative learning experiences that special learners deserve access to I intend to design a curriculum supplemented by applications that provide hands on interactive literacy and numeracy activities My students need this in order to build and reinforce their knowledge of crucial foundational skills before its too late -Charlestown High School Chemistry students love collaborating and learning together in Chemistry Throughout Chemistry there are many opportunities for students to expand their knowledge beyond the classroom Typically students only have access to the materials we have in the classroom however with chromebooks students can do research beyond the classroom and bring their culture into the classroom Students can make connections to their culture and explain how chemistry is relatable to events directly impacting their life and future environmental issues They can see and show experiences from their culture to others making worldwide connections Students can read current articles watch videos to enhance their learning experience draw conclusions and more to help discover solutions to real life problems -Orchard Gardens Pilot School Roxbury MA Foc |
