The world education research association (wera) was established to build capacity and interest in education research, foster sound education research policies and practices, and promote the use and application of education research worldwide. Wera partners with national, regional, and international specialty research associations that are committed to advancing education research as a scientific and scholarly field. Wera undertakes programs and initiatives that are global in nature and transcend what any one organization can accomplish in a single country, region, or area of specialization. Currently, twenty-eight research associations from around the world are members of wera. WERA ORGANIZED AND SPONSORED SUBSTANTIVE SYMPOSIA, SESSIONS, CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES, WORKSHOPS AND RELATED MEETINGS FOCUSED ON THE LATEST FINDING, ISSUES, AND TRENDS IN EDUCATION RESEARCH. IN SEPTEMBER 2024, WERA CONVENED THE 2024 WERA FOCAL MEETING IN MANCHESTER IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE BRITISH EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION (BERA). THE FOCAL MEETING BROUGHT TOGETHER RESEARCHERS, POLICY LEADERS, AND PRACTITIONERS FROM 49 COUNTRIES TO PARTICIPATE IN APPROXIMATELY 117 PROGRAM SESSIONS INCLUDING: PAPER SESSIONS (62), SYMPOSIA (15), POSTER SESSIONS (3), AS WELL AS OTHER PERTINENT SESSIONS (37) FOCUSED ON ADVANCING EDUCATION RESEARCH WORLDWIDE. IN 2024, WERA ALSO SPONSORED SYMPOSIA OR GAVE INVITED PLENARY ADDRESSES (IN-PERSON AND/OR VIRTUAL) AT INTERNATIONAL MEETINGS IN GERMANY, USA, SPAIN, THE UNITED KINGDOM (UK) AND RUSSIA. ALL OF THESE SESSIONS WERE HELD IN COOPERATION WITH AND AT THE SITE OF MEETINGS OF MEMBER ASSOCIATIONS OR RELEVANT ROLE PLAYER SITES. IN ADDITION, WERA PRESENTED NUMEROUS VIRTUAL WORLDWIDE WEBINAR PRESENTATIONS AND HOSTED ONLINE WRITING SEMINARS. EARLY CAREER SCHOLARS ARE ALSO SUPPORTED THROUGH THE WERA MENTORING PROGRAMME AND DOCTORAL AND EARLY CAREER (DEC) NETWORK. THE WERA VISITING RESEARCH AWARD, IN COLLABORATION WITH THE WERA INSTITUTIONAL MEMBER, THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE EVALUATION OF EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT (IEA) AND THE UNIVERSITY OF HAMBURG, GERMANY AS WELL AS WITH CENTRE FOR THE STUDY OF RESILIENCE (CSR), THE CENTRE FOR EVALUATION AND ASSESSMENT (CEA), UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA (UP) AND WITH THE WERA ASSOCIATION MEMBER, THE EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION SINGAPORE (ERAS), THE CENTRE FOR ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION (CAE) AT THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION, NANYANG TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY, SINGAPORE (NIE NTU, SINGAPORE) WERE ALSO AWARDED IN 2024 TO THREE SCHOLARS. FURTHERMORE, WERA SUPPORTED 12 INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH NETWORKS (IRNS) INVOLVING MORE THAN 60 SCHOLARS. THE WERA TASK FORCE, GLOBAL CHALLENGES AND EDUCATION, CONTINUED WITH INNOVATIONS THAT ENABLE POSITIVE EDUCATION OUTCOMES DESPITE SEVERE ADVERSITY AND PRESENTED SYMPOSIA IN THIS REGARD.
