| In January 2024, NCYCA's Emerging Issues Forum offered a digital marketing boot camp to help camp members elevate their online presence and provide them with a blueprint for organizing their digital efforts into an actionable plan with clear goals. NCYCA's 2024 Spring Meeting was held at Camp Timberlake. It featured industry experts exploring topics such as camp insurance trends, federal child labor violations, and policy objectives for the upcoming North Carolina legislative session. In late September of 2024, NCYCA hosted our annual fall membership meeting at Camp Illahee. In that meeting, discussions focused on the 2024 elections and their potential impact on the NC Summer Camp Industry, as well as strategies for advocating on behalf of your camp. Days after that meeting, Hurricane Helene struck Western North Carolina. Most camp members in Henderson and Transylvania Counties suffered significant storm damage but managed to regroup and prepare for the upcoming season. However, camp members in Buncombe, Rutherford, and McDowell Counties were severely affected by flooding and landslides caused by the storm, making recovery a much slower process for them. NCYCA visited camps during their hurricane recovery efforts and worked with them to educate policymakers on how they could support industry recovery. Furthermore, NCYCA joined an ACA committee to seek guidance from camps in Florida, Louisiana, and Alabama on hurricane recovery efforts. Behind the scenes, NCYCA partnered with Grow My Camp, a local website development company, to create and update a new website. The new site features well-organized, high-quality content that is easy to find and navigate. It features a responsive design and quick loading times, providing a seamless experience for visitors. Essential features include a professional and branded appearance, as well as a content management system that facilitates maintaining up-to-date, search engine-optimized content helpful to our members and business sponsors. Furthermore, Board, staff, and committee members actively recruited new Board members and filled vacant committee positions for the upcoming year. The NCYCA executive director also traveled to Washington, DC, to meet with lawmakers alongside members of the American Camp Association, discussing the camp industry's influence on America's youth. | - | - |
