Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 2

Michael Durso and Jordan Durso - Family relationship

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 7A

A minimum of 1/3 of the organization's governing body shall be nominated by the governing body of Christ Tabernacle.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 8B

There are no committees with authority to act on behalf of the governing body. Therefore, this question was answered no in accordance with the instructions.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11B

The Form 990 is prepared by an independent CPA firm and reviewed in detail by the organization's top management. A copy is provided to the Executive Director and to every voting member of the governing body prior to filing with the IRS.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15

Compensation is reviewed and approved annually by independent board members. Comparable data is used and the approval process is documented in the minutes.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19

The organization makes its governing documents and financial statements available to the public upon request.

Form 990, Part VII, Line 1A

Compensation reported in Part VII, column D and Schedule J, Part II, column B is the amount reported on the individual's W-2, box 1 or 5 (whichever amount is greater) per the IRS instructions. In the case of minister's compensation when box 5 of the W-2 is not applicable, box 1 compensation is used. Employee deferrals to qualified retirement plans are normally captured in box 5, not box 1 of Form W-2. For reporting purposes we have included the minister's retirement plan deferrals in Part VII, column F and Schedule J, Part II, column C.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0In an effort to preserve family traditions and values The Legacy Center is intentional about making the holidays brighter for our unemployed, underemployed, and underserved community members. To that end we provide meals and gifts during the holidays-meals which families can prepare themselves and gifts parents can give to their children Christmas morning. These initiatives are supported 100% by private donations (GIK).THANKSGIVING - Via our Marketplace distribution point, 312 families received Thanksgiving Dinner baskets complete with a whole chicken, ham, roast pork or a turkey, along with vegetables and dessert. Recipients include families served through TLC's Marketplace, and families living in NYC shelters. CHRISTMAS PRESENTS - 1,000 Christmas gifts were distributed to local children at a special, 2-day Christmas outreach event we called Santa's Toyshop at The Legacy Center. In addition, a number of those gifts were provided to local volunteers of Angel Tree Prison Fellowship and delivered toys to children whose parents are incarcerated.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc1Feed Somebody Monday and Legacy Lunch Dates: Teams of volunteers hit the streets every week to serve people who are experiencing hunger, loneliness and homelessness via outreach events called Feed Somebody Mondays and Legacy Lunch Dates. In addition, during Thanksgiving TLC rents a tent and sets up a family style luncheon at Maria Hernandez Park to serve those who are hungry, experiencing homelessness or simply lonely. During these outreaches volunteers deliver blankets, foods, and toiletries to people experiencing homelessness, hunger and/or are loneliness. The goal is to meet people in their need, connect with them and provide longterm solutions and services to help people out of their situations or crisis situations. TLC is relentless about impacting the legacy of the underserved people in NYC! During 2017, volunteers served 3,369 meals to the hungry throughout NYC.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1A minimum of 1/3 of the organization's governing body shall be nominated by the governing body of Christ Tabernacle.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt2There are no committees with authority to act on behalf of the governing body. Therefore, this question was answered no in accordance with the instructions.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt3The Form 990 is prepared by an independent CPA firm and reviewed in detail by the organization's top management. A copy is provided to the Executive Director and to every voting member of the governing body prior to filing with the IRS.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt4Compensation is reviewed and approved annually by independent board members. Comparable data is used and the approval process is documented in the minutes.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt5The organization makes its governing documents and financial statements available to the public upon request.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt6Compensation reported in Part VII, column D and Schedule J, Part II, column B is the amount reported on the individual's W-2, box 1 or 5 (whichever amount is greater) per the IRS instructions.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt7The organization's Board officers assume responsibility for oversight of the review of its financial statements and selection of an independent accountant. This process has not changed since the prior year.
