IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0The Organization is part of a regional housing coalition under the Neighborhood Stabilization Program, a federal grant program administered by the state government. Members of the coalition assist the Virginia government in identifying appropriate housing and receive a fee for this service. The Organization will also assist local and state government in addressing the crisis in the local housing market which has resulted in a surplus of vacant housing. Prince William County, and Dale City in particular, have been hit particularly hard by the foreclosure crisis. The Organization identifies housing that is within the area serviced by the Fire Department that can be used for this program. Applicants apply to the housing coalition and are means qualified to purchase the foreclosed houses. The programs primary benefit reduces the impacts of arson and blight to vacant homes in the neighborhoods surrounding the fire house. This results in three distinct benefits: 1) residents in the community are given the opportunity to purchase their own homes within the community; 2) the number of vacant houses due to foreclosures is reduced and the general appearance and safety of the community is improved; and 3) the number of vacant homes that might be attractive shelters to vagrants and others predisposed to mischief is reduced, thus reducing the opportunity for fires to break out in these abandoned houses which are currently fire hazards
