Mission
The pongo fund provides pet food and vital veterinary care for family pets of anyone in honest need, including the homeless, the unemployed, the disadvantaged, the disabled, senior citizens, veterans and more, keeping these animals safe, healthy, and out of the shelters.
Major Activities
- Activity 2
- During the year ended june 30, 2013, the pongo fund hunger response distribution network continued to donate millions of pet food meals to dozens of oregon & southwest washington human-focused emergency food agencies. Our unique and innovative hunger response network bridged the gap that occurs when hungry people have hungry pets. We continued to be a pet food and referral resource for dozens of esteemed hunger relief and social service agencies, including oregon food bank, united way/211, salvation army, snowcap charities, neighborhood house, potluck in the park, ecumenical ministries, portland adventist community services, union gospel mission, central city concern, the oregon department of human services and more. These agencies depended on the pongo fund to help their own clients, ultimately ensuring that everyone around the dinner table had good food to eat.
- Activity 3
- The pongo fund carried on our trust-building efforts with clients which continued to lead to educational opportunities during the year. Our focus on humane and responsible pet care has allowed us to negotiate and facilitate the spay/neuter of more than 1,000 previously unaltered animals, dramatically reducing shelter populations and unnecessary euthanasia.
