Form 990, All Parts & All Schedules

Amended return explanation: due to issues with staffing, the independent audit of the organization's financial statements could not be completed by the extended due date of the exempt organization returns. Subsequent to filing the original return, the organization's audited financial statements were issued with an unqualified opinion and the organization's return was amended to conform to its financial statements. Grant revenue and program service revenue have been adjusted to reflect revenue earned during the current period. The changes made have affected the following areas of the return: form 990, parts iii,iv,viii,ix,x,xii,and schedules a,b,d,o, and r.

FORM 990, PART III, LINE 4C SUPPLEMENTAL INFO:

Land bank - bnsc established a land bank in the massachusetts avenue corridor in 2009 for the purpose of acquiring and stabilizing vacant and abandoned property. Since that time the land bank has acquired close to 40 properties. Substantial funding has come from the federal neighborhood stabilization program. The land bank provides a mechanism to gain community control over properties in the neighborhood while a future rehabilitation or redevelopment plan is produced. Bnsc has used its land bank properties in a variety of ways. Bnsc has partnered with habitat for humanity buffalo and home front to redevelop houses for home ownership. Bnsc has also created significant new green space in the neighborhood, including the hampshire street and 14th street community gardens, the west ferry butterfly garden, and the school 30 community garden.

A TYPICAL PUSH BLUE RAIN GARDEN WILL CAPTURE OVER 14,000 GALLONS OF STORMWATER ANNUALLY. GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS KEEP STORMWATER OUT OF THE SEWER SYSTEM AND THUS PREVENT COMBINED SEWER OVERFLOWS. FOR RESIDENTS OF THE WEST SIDE, ADDRESSING ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES SUCH AS COMBINED SEWER OVERFLOWS IS A MATTER OF SURVIVAL. SEWAGE OVERFLOWS ARE DISCHARGED INTO THE BLACK ROCK CANAL AND SCAJAQUADA CREEK, WHICH FLOW INTO THE NIAGARA RIVER, WHERE MANY NEIGHBORHOOD RESIDENTS SWIM AND FISH. HEALTH IMPACTS RANGE FROM GASTROINTESTINAL ILLNESS TO RASHES AFTER WATER EXPOSURE. OTHER RESIDENTS FACE EVEN WORSE HEALTH IMPACTS FROM EATING FISH OUT OF THE NIAGARA RIVER. FISH CONSUMPTION IS A SOURCE OF SUSTENANCE FOR MANY OF THE REFUGEES AND PEOPLE WITH LOW INCOMES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. IN 2015, WE LAUNCHED A MAJOR PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BUFFALO SEWER AUTHORITY TO LANDSCAPE 230 VACANT LOTS AS STORMWATER MANAGEMENT SITES TO COMBAT BUFFALO'S STORMWATER OVERFLOW CRISIS. THIS PARTNERSHIP CREATED 10 NEW HIGH WAGE JOBS. IN 2017, PUSH BLUE COMPLETED THIS PROJECT AND INSTALLED GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE ON 19 ACRES OF POST-DEMOLITION SITES ACROSS THE CITY. PUSH BLUE ALSO INSTALLED A POCKET PARK UNDERNEATH THE PEACE BRIDGE.

WE ALSO PROVIDE OR COORDINATE ACCESS TO NO-COST TRAINING, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER WRAP-AROUND SUPPORT SERVICES FOR HIRING HALL WORKERS.
