“The heart of embrace the nations has to do with people groups, particularly refugees, who are far from home and are now living in the united states. For most, civil war has stolen everything and caused them to flee for their lives. Refugees never planned to come to the united states, but they are grateful for legal passage and a new place to call home. The transition is overwhelming: new language, new culture, new rules. Embrace the nations helps refugees accomplish what is necessary to successfully assimilate. This happens through building trusting relationships, offering support through the sharing of information and resources, helping to strengthen work, school, legal and social footholds and spending a lot of time listening and caring. This organization also believes that every person, no matter who they are, should have the opportunity to hear about the gospel of jesus christ if they choose. Based on a holistic model, this nonprofit has, over many years, addressed physical, mental, social, educational and spiritual needs of refugees in omaha. Etn has impacted multiple international people groups though health teaching, english classes, parenting classes, bible study, car maintenance and so many other topics. Food items, baby items, clothing, household items and more have been contributed in times of need. Embrace the nations has also helped the omaha community better understand who refugees are and to establish healthy relationships with these different people groups. This has involved cultural awareness training in numerous hospitals, clinics, churches, universities, other schools, businesses and service organizations including 800 police officers in the omaha police department. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve both the international community and our city.”
