“pet waste from sensitive riparian corridors along the creek. These”

“successes were due to strong partnerships with federal & state agencies,”

“city governments, and the local community. In 2024, OCWC held 7 volunteer”

“clean-up events. In total, over 175 volunteers helped preserve the health &”

“integrity of Oak Creek. The organization monitored the effectiveness of”

“pull-out closures by tracking litter removed over time at each of these”

“rehabilitated sites within Oak Creek Canyon. Similarly, in partnership with”

“the National Forest Foundation & the AZ Dept of Environmental Quality, OCWC”

“monitored the effectiveness of 34 rehabilitated social trails. These were”

“informal trails along Oak Creek Canyon that recreators had been using to”

“access the creek. Stabilizing streambanks & hillsides encourages vegetation”

“growth & provides habitat for wildlife while reducing soil erosion into the”

“waterway. OCWC used repeat photography, trash pickup & GPS mapping to”

“understand restoration treatment effectiveness & visitor-use behaviors.”

“During 2024, OCWC regularly monitored water quality in Oak Creek Canyon,”

“collecting 50 water samples over weekends, holidays & midweek. We also”

“began a new educational program for local students, providing hands-on”

“science activities that allow them to connect classroom science & creek”

“health with responsible recreation choices. A total of 64 students”

“participated in this program in 2024. Additionally, OCWC collected over”

“3,000 pounds of pet waste in 2024 from stations we maintain at trailheads”

“throughout Oak Creek Canyon & the greater Sedona area. Pet waste is one of”

“the leading contributors to E. coli contamination in our local waterways;”

“this project (along with other measures by AQEQ & USFS) has reduced the”

“frequency of E. coli contamination. Finally, OCWC's ongoing outreach &”

“education work has been instrumental in inviting the community into the”

“conservation of their own local ecosystems.”
