“The vision of mission birmingham is the transformation of the birmingham metropolitan area. Our mission is to see the whole church take the whole gospel to the whole city. We accomplish that by bringing leaders together to create partnerships that advance the kingdom in our community. We also seek to equip leaders and their organizations to be more effective in their communities.mission birmingham is leading the way in making a difference in the east lake community of birmingham. More than twenty ministries and organizations are gathering on a bi-monthly basis for strategy development and partnering. The leaders of the organizations are building relationships with one another and continually look for ways to partner with one another. We call this the east lake community conversation prayer is a vital and foundational aspect of mission birmingham. In 2016, we led the nonprofit summer prayer journey, a series of ten weekly one-hour prayer gatherings at various ministry headquarters of the organizations involved with the east lake community conversation. The nonprofit summer prayer journey culminated in a city-wide prayer gathering for east lake at new rising star missionary baptist church attended by 400. Mission birmingham leads the cry for birmingham quarterly prayer gathering, an event that was started in 1999 and which we have faithfully continued. Regions bank graciously hosts the event at their headquarters in their executive dining room. The event was attended by 30-40 birmingham church and christian nonprofit leaders each quarter. We also lead the international missions leaders gathering, a quarterly gathering of leaders of international missions agencies headquartered in birmingham and missions pastors of local birmingham churches. 15-20 leaders attended these four quarterly meetings for the purpose of building relationships and looking for ways to partner. Our nonprofit also provided logistical support to the bluff park community thanksgiving service, the one accord unity and prayer event and the scott dawson evangelistic association pastors appreciation breakfast. In 2016 mission birmingham launched a website (servemycity.com) to connect people with passion with a place to serve. More than 120 nonprofit organizations are listed on the site, providing potential volunteers with information about how to become involved in their organizations. The site is also useful for case managers to connect their clients to other resources throughout the region.
