Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

FORM 990, PART XII, LINE 2C:

The executive committee assumes the responsibility of reviewing the financial statements and selecting the independent accountants, no change in procedure was made during the fiscal year.

Financial Statement Notes

PART V, LINE 4:

The institute's temporarily restricted endowments pertain to funding received that has donor-imposed restrictions for time and/or purpose. Included in these endowments are pledges with time restrictions, funds held for the equipment manufacturers committee scholarship fund, and funds held for the liquid feed committee kenny berg research and education fund. Board designated endowments include funds held for the various pledges made by the board during the fiscal year.

PART X, LINE 2:

In accounting for uncertainty in income taxes, accounting standards require an entity to recognize the financial statement impact of a tax position when it is more-likely-than-not that the position will not be sustained upon examination. Management evaluated the institute's tax positions and concluded there are no uncertain tax positions that require adjustment to the financial statements to comply with the provisions of this guidance.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0SUSTAINABILITY INVESTMENTS:WHILE REDUCING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS IS A BIG FOCUS FOR FOOD AND AGRICULTURE COMPANIES LOOKING TO ENHANCE THEIR SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAMS, SUSTAINABILITY IN THE ANIMAL FOOD INDUSTRY IS MUCH MORE THAN THAT. IT ALSO ENCOMPASSES SAFEGUARDING OUR FEED AND FOOD SUPPLY, INVESTING IN THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF OUR EMPLOYEES AND COMMUNITIES, AND BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE TO REGULATORY BODIES AND SHAREHOLDERS. THE INSTITUTE FOR FEED EDUCATION AND RESEARCH DEFINES 'SUSTAINABILITY' AS "DEFINED AND MANAGED BY EACH INDIVIDUAL ORGANIZATION IN THE ANIMAL FOOD INDUSTRY TO DELIVER MEASURABLE, CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENTS ON THE IMPACTS RELATED TO PEOPLE, PLANET AND GOVERNANCE THAT ARE MOST IMPORTANT TO THEM AND THEIR STAKEHOLDERS." WITH A MISSION TO ADVANCE UNDERSTANDING AND TRUST IN A SUSTAINABLE ANIMAL FEED AND PET FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN, IFEEDER IS COLLABORATING WITH INDUSTRY MEMBERS AND UPSTREAM AND DOWNSTREAM STAKEHOLDERS ON A MULTIFACETED STRATEGY TO ADVANCE FEED SYSTEMS SUSTAINABILITY.THIS YEAR IFEEDER ADDED TO ITS COLLECTION OF RESOURCES IN THE ANIMAL FOOD INDUSTRY SUSTAINABILITY TOOLKIT TO FURTHER SUPPORT ANIMAL FEED AND PET FOOD MEMBERS IN EXPLORING AND NAVIGATING THE LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT SPACE.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0OTHER PROGRAMS: THE INSTITUTE CONDUCTS OTHER PROGRAM ACTIVITIES THAT INCLUDE VARIOUS MEETINGS AND INTERACTIONS WITH ORGANIZATIONS THAT VALUE THE BELIEFS ESTABLISHED BY THE INSTITUTE'S CORE MISSION STATEMENT.
