Sustainfloyd is a rural non-profit in the blue ridge mountains that undertakes projects to support the environment, agriculture, renewable energy and community well being.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 28

The floyd farmer's market is sustainfloyd's largest program. Every community needs a place where people can gather to share, learn & celebrate. Opened in may, 2010, the market is a 3,000 square foot timber frame structure located in the center of town. The market connects consumers to locally grown fresh produce and locally made artisan goods. Our market has advanced an objective to develop a local food system and to encourage a local creative economy and local entrepreneurship. To provide local food for the whole community, sustainfloyd provides an ebt machine at the market. In addition, with funding from leap and also as a program service of sustainfloyd, snap beneficiaries may receive a dollar for dollar match on the amount swiped on their ebt card, up to a maximum of 50 per day. 5 kids kash slips are handed out to kids 6 to 10 years old and may be used at the market to purchase fruits, vegetables or plants. Market sponsors are acknowledged with privilege of hanging their banner under the pavilion.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 29

Beginning in 2023, sustainfloyd is working with floyd tourixm on a floyd farm trail for visitors and local residents to explore the potential for farms and food businesses in floyd county to incorporate agritourism into their organizations

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 30

Sustainfloyd's other programs include the education and film series, food guide, recycling/re-use project and biodiversity initiatives. Since 2011 sustainfloyd has been showing a series of documentary films relating to our mission. It is one way to enliven the local discussion of issues relating to securing a sustainable future. Our film working group considers ideas for films submitted by board and community members and tries to offer documentaries covering a wide range of topics. Our hope is that these events offer ideas and hope of ways that both individuals and community groups can make an impact. Sponsorships are welcome to help cover the cost of our films and will be gratefully acknowledged. In recent years we have been offering free online screenings of important environmental documentaries. Our food guide to food resources in our commuinty is updated annually. The food guide is used by groups and individuals to find food or a food pantry in the community. During 2021 sustainfloyd began collecting recycling at the floyd farmer's market monthly. This project continues into 2024.
