IRS990EZ/PrimaryExemptPurpose0The LIFE Foundation is an educational non-profit organization, whose primary purpose is to raise awareness and understanding of important life concepts as one transitions to early adulthood. Educating the community on vital topics such as credit, taxes, health insurance, and banking serves as the cornerstone for The LIFE Foundation. Additional assistance is also provided in the career development field, in which the organization assists individuals with interview skills, resume preparation, planning, networking, entrepreneurship, and Six Sigma philosophies. The target audience for the organization is the 13-21 age group; this presents a continuous focus for The LIFE Foundation as each year there are high school graduates making the transition to college life or adult living. Through primary and secondary research, The LIFE Foundation constructs information in the form of presentations and booklets that serve as the chief source of material for distribution.

IRS990EZ/ProgramServiceAccomplishment/DescriptionProgramServiceAccom0The Mary Phillips High School Life Skills Program is a program that focuses on raising the awareness and understanding of vital life skills needed to become a successful, knowledgeable adult. The program components were Banking, Taxes, Credit, Networking and Group Thinking, and Business Entrepreneurship (the business entrepreneurship component was added to provide insight into starting a business at a young age, and was intended to get the participants thinking about college choices). The program operates on a bi-weekly schedule during school hours, where The LIFE Foundation would come in and teach from the program manual for one (1) hour each session. In addition to the learning, there are also group discussion activities that were completed at the start of each session. The program took place under the direction of the Career Development Coordinator at Mary Phillips High School in Raleigh, NC, in which The LIFE Foundation was provided with a classroom to facilitate the learning during school hours. The program started with an enrollment of 13 students, however after the 6th week of the program, enrollment peaked at 19 students, mainly because of student interest and "word of mouth" of the program. The program has lasted for a total of 10 weeks (10 sessions), impacting a total of 23 students. Out of the 23 students, 18 have been regular participants in the program, attending each session. Surveys were provided to the participants at the start and end of each section of the program. On average, the level of understanding on an individual topic before it was covered was 30% ("Do not understand"); after the section was covered, the average of understanding went up to 95% ("Do understand"). Only with "Banking" was the survey results more even during the before and after survey (80% before, 100% after), suggesting that most students already have a good understanding of bank accounts. From this involvement, The LIFE Foundation has been asked to interact with more of the student body in ways outside of this program. Other programs, such as college examination prep and career development skills have been discussed and implemented at Mary Phillips High School. The goal of this program was to create a sense of urgency and awareness around the topics selected for communication. The organization wanted the participants to take ownership over their learning when it comes to life matters. With this program, the additional goal is to impact more students within the high school over the next year, while also implementing this program at other high schools in the Raleigh, NC area over that same time frame.
IRS990EZ/ProgramServiceAccomplishment/DescriptionProgramServiceAccom1The YMCA Camp OUB Achievers Program is a summer camp program that has multiple points of interest for the participants. The LIFE Foundation has partnered with this program for the past two (2) years, focusing on life skills and most recently, business entrepreneurship. The program operates during the summer months of June and July; The LIFE Foundation receives facilitation dates before camp to schedule facilitator sessions. During the first year, The LIFE Foundation received five (5) time slots. In year two, The LIFE Foundation received a total of 17 time slots. The program operates seven (7) hours each day, Monday thru Friday, at St. Augustine's College in Raleigh, NC. For the past two (2) years, The LIFE Foundation has impacted 240 young students between the ages of 13-17. The focus for the most recent summer program was Business Entrepreneurship, in which The LIFE Foundation divided 105 participants into ten (10) teams. The LIFE Foundation went through the presentation for Business Entrepreneurship, communicating the basics for developing a business plan, formation, marketing, etc., and then each team was responsible for preparing a business plan. At the end of the program, each team had to present their business plan to the rest of the group, including YMCA Board members who served as judges for each business plan. The LIFE Foundation was successful at having each team put together a business plan and presenting, giving a total of 10 well-constructed business plans with many "props" and examples for each. The LIFE Foundation did not have the opportunity to survey the participants; however, the feeling is that each participant now knows the basic information needed to construct a basic business plan.
IRS990EZ/ProgramServiceAccomplishment/DescriptionProgramServiceAccom2The Job Seeker Assistance Program is an outreach program in which The LIFE Foundation goes to area employment open house and job fairs to deliver helpful information during the participant's job search. The program operates whenever there is one of these events in the Raleigh, NC area; during the past year, The LIFE Foundation went to seven (7) different fairs, impacting approximately 2,400 job-seekers. The process behind this program was to simply be in attendance and pass out relevant information regarding the job seeking process. Small hand-outs are passed out to everyone in attendance, containing tips on resume, attire, and interviewing. In addition to passing out the flyer, questions are asked to each participant to gain more insight to what job-seekers are looking for, and how to make these types of "fairs" better in terms of the experience and overall effectiveness. This type of research is collected so that if The LIFE Foundation organizes an employment fair, relevant information can be used to make it the best experience possible. There were no formal partnership formed for these types of events, however, the RTP Radisson Hotel has expressed its gratitude for having The LIFE Foundation at their event, and asked The LIFE Foundation to continue to come to its employment events of this nature.
