IRS990/Desc0The Rural Cooperative Development Grant program (RCDG) class is the entire work plan submitted to USDA. All of our work elements in 2014 were eligible for reimbursement from USDA. CEDC is working to improve the economic, social, and cultural well being of rural and reservation communities within North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota. We are committed to assisting individuals and entities in the start-up, expansion or operational improvement of rural businesses, especially those that are cooperatively- or mutually-owned. CEDC benefits the cooperative development community by providing professional training and education to cooperative developers and educators through contracts with the Association of Cooperative Educators (ACE) and CooperationWorks (CW).CEDC assists with the planning and delivery of the ACE Institute. This year, 150 attendees at the ACE Institute in learned about cooperative development, networked with other co-op developers and educators, and toured local cooperative development projects and businesses. One of CEDCs primary efforts is to expand the ACE Institute audience to include rural communities and usinesses that are less familiar with the cooperative model but would benefit from understanding the valuecooperatives could bring to their community, from both an conomic and social perspective.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0CEDC is committed to assisting new and emerging cooperatives with organizational development, strategic planning, administrative services, grant writing, equity drives, feasibility studies, financing packages, and board director training. The impact of CEDC services extends to members, farmers, rural organizations, and others, who will gain higher prices for their products, lower marketing costs,and access to capital. This year we worked to: Present the cooperative business model to individuals or communities seeking solutions to market place failures. Share the cooperative model with communities that could benefit from its application. Assist communities or groups in the formation steps of organizational development. Create sources of funds to pay for technical assistance outside of rural areas. Assist with feasibility studies or due diligence on completed studies. Continue to offer services for small businesses. Help write and/or advise on grant and loan applications. Help with the coordination of lenders.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0The co-op health care class is part of the CEDC work plan that involved contracting with The Wilson Health Cooperative to plan and facilitate the Health Design Summit held in New Town, ND in December. CEDC contracted with WHC and then sub-contracted with Tony Lingham as the facilitator. CEDC ran all of those costs through our books and they counted as match against the RCDG grant. The Wilson Health Planning Coopeartive works to address the issues surrounding access to quality healthcare and the significant health disparities between Native Americans who rely on Indian Health Services and non-natives who have access to other healthcare service providers. In December 2014, CEDC assisted with the organization and facilitiation of the Wilson Healthcare Design Summit in New Town, ND. The Summit initiated the process of articulating the strategies needed to achieve the shared vision of an integrated healthcare system. Approximately 50 healthcare providers, administrators, and community members attended the Summit. Over the course of three, days they discussed strategies for developing alternative governance models, emergency services, and behavioral health services. The conversations helped to identify the next steps for development.
