| In 2016 the Collective Voices Foundation continued to support local educational programming for under-resourced youth in Pasadena. This year we focused on supporting the following programs: 1) The College and Career Preparation Program and the "Bully Be Gone" Program: The College and Career Prep Program is a collaborative program that is directed and facilitated by Julie Kelly and targets various middle school and high school classrooms in the Pasadena Unified School District. The program builds upon the California Department of Education and the ECCCO curriculum standards to deliver a comprehensive College and Careers Mastery Training Program. Program prepares youth to successfully transition from middle school to high school, and then on to the college/university and the career of their choice. This program systematically develops the vital life skills that are necessary to achieve success in the current economic climate. The Bully Be Gone program teaches youth to understand why bullies do what they do, and how to respond in a positive and empowering manner. The training and presentations also help youth learn the behaviors that constitute bullying and how to counteract them, how to value themselves despite having experienced bullying, how to empower themselves and to manage their external environment and pressures in healthy ways, and the strategies to change their mindset from negative to positive, to not only deal with a bullying situation, but any challenge that life throws their way2) Collective Voices helped fund and support the following programs for the The Youth Educational Programming of the Pasadena Humane Society (PHS). Barks and Books offers a reading enrichment program in local libraries for children ages 5 to 12 which makes reading fun, boosts confidence and encourages respectful, humane treatment for all animals.Educational Presentations and Tours are given to school children, scout troops and other members of our community to learn proper pet care and the appreciation and humane treatment of animals.Junior Ambassador Summer Internship provides an opportunity for teenagers 15 to 17 to work with dogs and learn about animal behavior and training. Interns will apply what they learn at the shelter by providing humane education and outreach to young people in the community.P.E.T.S. Pasadena Education and Training Service) is a collaborative after school program for elementary, middle and high school students enrolled in the PUSD provides innovative learning opportunities by offering off campus enrichment time to students from low-income families. This program is designed to provide character development through humane education, encouraging empathy to promote a humane global society while enhancing the human-animal relationship. By offering practical information students are prepared to become leaders in academic and experiential curriculum.Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA Summer Camp is a week-long program, perfect for young animal lovers between the ages of 12 and 15 to experience working with shelter animals. | $103,600 | - |
