“Mcch and ems have been granted exemption from taxation as a not-for-profit organization under section 115 of the internal revenue code (irc), which excludes income derived from the exercise of any essential government function and accruing to a state or any political subdivision thereof, from gross income. The endowment is a not-for-profit organization as described in section 501(c)(3) of the irc. Therefore, no provision for federal income taxes has been provided in the consolidated statements of operations and changes in net position. However, the endowment is required to file a federal form 990 - return of organization exempt from income tax, which is an informational return only. Accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america require management to evaluate tax positions taken and recognize a tax liability if the hospital has taken an uncertain position that more likely than not would not be sustained upon examination by various federal and state taxing authorities. Management has analyzed the tax positions taken, and has concluded that as of september 30, 2024 and 2023, there are no uncertain positions taken or expected to be taken that would require recognition of a liability or disclosure in the accompanying financial statements. The hospital is subject to routine audits by taxing jurisdictions; however, there are currently no audits for any tax periods in progress.”
