IRS990/Desc0MUCH WAS ACCOMPLISHED IN 2013 AT INTELLECTUAL TAKEOUT. THE MOST IMPORTANT CHANGE WAS THE SHIFT OF OUR FOCUS. BASED ON WHAT WE LEARNED BY COMMUNICATING WITH HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF FACEBOOK FANS/SUBSCRIBERS IN 2012, WE MORE CLEARLY SAW THE CHALLENGES CONFRONTING THOSE WHO WORK TOWARDS A MORE FREE, JUST, AND FLOURISHING SOCIETY. REDEFINED MISSION AND VISIONTO MORE EFFECTIVELY ADDRESS THE PROBLEMS WE ARE SEEING IN THE CULTURE TODAY, WE CHANGED OUR MISSION AND VISION, BOTH OF WHICH WERE ADOPTED BY OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS AT OUR APRIL 2013 MEETING: MISSION: TO FEED MINDS, FOSTER DISCUSSION, AND INSPIRE ACTION BASED ON THE PRINCIPLES AND VIRTUES NECESSARY FOR HUMAN FLOURISHING.VISION: TO PLAY A PIVOTAL ROLE IN FUNDAMENTALLY RESHAPING AMERICA BASED ON THE IDEALS OF FREEDOM, JUSTICE, AND SUBSIDIARITY.UNDER THE NEW MISSION AND VISION, WE HAVE MAINLY FOCUSED OUR EFFORTS ON FOUR BROAD TOPICS: EDUCATION, ECONOMICS, GOVERNMENT, AND SOCIETY. WITH THAT OPERATIONAL FRAMEWORK PUT IN PLACE FOR MOST OF 2013, WE MET WITH ENORMOUS SUCCESS! IMPACTING CULTURE WITH SOCIAL MEDIA TO BEGIN CHANGING THE CULTURE BY FEEDING MINDS, FOSTERING DISCUSSION, AND INSPIRING ACTION, WE RECOGNIZED THAT INTELLECTUAL TAKEOUT WOULD NEED TO REACH A LOT OF PEOPLE. THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA, PARTICULARLY FACEBOOK, WE WERE ABLE TO DO SO. WE CALL IT A CONSTANT DRIP OF INFORMATION THE EFFORT TO BE ABLE TO DAILY PRESENT AND SUPPORT AN ALTERNATIVE VIEW OF GOVERNMENT, SOCIETY, ECONOMICS, FAMILY, AND MORE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. AS A CONSTANT DRIP WAS AND IS OUR GOAL, OVER THE COURSE OF 2013 WE GREW OUR AUDIENCE TO OVER 1,000,000+ FANS/SUBSCRIBERS. DUE TO OUR LARGE, BASE AUDIENCE, WE CONSISTENTLY HAD 2 MILLION TO 4 MILLION INDIVIDUALS VIEW AT LEAST ONE PIECE OF INTELLECTUAL TAKEOUT MATERIAL EACH WEEK! EVERY SEVEN DAYS WE PUBLISHED 90-100 AGGREGATE FACEBOOK POSTS ACROSS OUR FIVE DIFFERENT FACEBOOK PAGES: INTELLECTUAL TAKEOUT, MOMTHINK, BETTER ED, KNOW-Y, AND BOOMERCOUNTRY. OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR, WE PUBLISHED AROUND 5,000 FACEBOOK POSTS. BY PUBLISHING SO MUCH CONTENT EACH WEEK TO SUCH A LARGE AGGREGATE AUDIENCE, WE SAW INCREDIBLE PEAKS IN THE NUMBERS OF INDIVIDUALS REACHED. IN SEPTEMBER WE HAD ONE FACEBOOK POST (RELATED TO THE BUDGET SHUTDOWN IN D.C.) ON JUST THE INTELLECTUAL TAKEOUT PAGE ALONE VIEWED BY OVER 5 MILLION INDIVIDUALS! INDEED, WE HAD MANY, MANY POSTS VIEWED BY HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF INDIVIDUALS AND SEVERAL THAT WERE EACH VIEWED BY MILLIONS OF AMERICANS. SOME WEEKS WE EVEN REGISTERED NEARLY 10 MILLION INDIVIDUALS VIEWING OUR FACEBOOK CONTENT. BETTER ED PROJECT IN ADDITION TO OUR SOCIAL MEDIA EFFORTS, WE ALSO OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED OUR BETTER ED PROJECT WHICH IS FOCUSED ON EDUCATION TRANSFORMATION IN MINNESOTA BY RAISING AWARENESS OF THE PROBLEMS AND PROMOTING SOLUTIONS. WE BELIEVE THAT ONE OF THE BEST SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM OPPORTUNITIES TO CHANGE THE CULTURAL LANDSCAPE IS THROUGH EDUCATION. WITH THAT IN MIND, WE GREW THE BETTER ED FACEBOOK PAGE TO NEARLY 12,000 FANS/SUBSCRIBERS OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR, WHICH GAVE US THE LARGEST EDUCATION-RELATED FACEBOOK PAGE IN MINNESOTA OVER 3 TIMES THE SIZE OF EDUCATION MINNESOTA. AS OUR GOAL FOR BETTER ED IS TO REACH THE PUBLIC WITH INFORMATION THAT THEY LIKELY WOULDNT GET FROM THE TRADITIONAL MEDIA, WE ALSO STEPPED OUTSIDE OF SOCIAL MEDIA. BETTER ED REGULARLY E-MAILED NEARLY 10,000 E-MAIL SUBSCRIBERS. WE ALSO MAILED 6 POSTCARDS TO THE RESIDENTS OF MINNEAPOLIS AS WELL AS LEGISLATORS AND BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS IN THE STATE. EACH POSTCARD HAD AN ATTENTION GRABBING FRONT FOLLOWED BY IMPORTANT FACTS ON THE BACK, SUCH AS THE FACT THAT MINNEAPOLIS SPENT ROUGHLY $23,000 PER STUDENT IN THE 2012-2013 SCHOOL YEAR AND ONLY 50% OF THE STUDENTS GRADUATED ON TIME. THE COMBINED EFFORTS OF BETTER ED HAD QUITE AN IMPACT EARNING MEDIA ATTENTION IN THE STAR TRIBUNE, MINNPOST, AND OTHER NEWSPAPERS, RADIO COVERAGE ON SHOWS SUCH AS EMMER & DAVIS AND JACK & BEN, LEGISLATORS USING OUR MATERIALS, A MEASURABLE SHIFT IN HOW EDUCATION IN MINNEAP
