| THE MENTAL HEALTH CHAMPIONS' BANQUET is a signature event is an opportunity to raise awareness and public understanding of mental health conditions. Annually, three remarkable Missourians, who have overcome their challenges to make life better for themselves, others and their communities, are selected to receive the Missouri Mental Health Champions award. This event recognizes and celebrates the success of many Missourians. These individuals have a meaningful role in their communities and promote the importance of self-determination, recovery and education about mental health disorders, developmental disabilities and substance use disorders. | - | - |
| MEDIA ACTIVITIES: The Missouri Mental Health Foundation (MMHF) is responsible for providing broad-based public education and awareness services. Such services include providing educational resource materials and assistance at various community events, conferences, and trainings. MMHF partnered with a marketing firm for rebranding, including a new logo, branding design, website, marketing materials and other items. In addition, MMHF supported a statewide billboard campaign providing messages associated with the importance of acknowledging mental health conditions, and awareness ads regarding mental illness and substance use disorders. MMHF also hosts the RESPECT Institute of Missouri, and has dedicated resources to reinvigorating the program, and the new Speakers Bureau. MMHF also participated in several community educational events this fiscal year, reaching many Missourians. | - | - |
| St. Louis Opioid overdose reduction grassroots project: Fatal opioid involved overdoses among black men and women have increased in the city of St. Louis every year since at least 2019. In 2020, the St. Louis metropolitan area accounted for 82% of all fatal overdoses of Black people in the state of Missouri. Rates of Fentanyl involved deaths continue to be highest among Black males in St. Louis city. To address the ongoing increase in overdose fatalities the Missouri Department of Mental Health requested assistance at the local level to develop a strategy to reduce these deaths. DMH agreed to pilot a radically innovative inside/out approach to empower and build capacity of grassroots" based entities as viable partners. The identified primary investment strategy was based on the principle that the people who live in the neighborhoods/communities we hope to positively impact are the experts and recognizing the hard work that is occurring by both faith and non-faith groups in community, often with few resources and utilizing volunteers, and not sustained by contracts or grants.The Missouri Mental Health Foundation (MMHF) collaborates with the Behavioral Health Network (BHN) to provide the needed funding to support the grassroots organizations in their efforts. The grassroots organizations in St. Louis invoice BHN, and BHN invoices MMHF with their 5% administrative fee added. MMHF pays the invoice and then submits for reimbursement through the DMH-MMHF contract with a 5% administrative fee. | - | - |
| Real Voices Real Choices Conference: The Missouri Mental Health Foundation (MMHF) co-hosts the annual Real Voices Real Choices Conference with the Missouri Department of Mental Health. The conference is designed to empower, inspire, and educate individuals and families living in Missouri with mental illnesses, developmental or intellectual disabilities, or substance disorders. The conference is hosted in August at Margaritaville Resort and hosts various presentation tracks and activities to help individuals improve their independence and quality of life. The event started in 2008 with around 120 people, and now hosts around 850 people. The conference offers entertainment such as a keynote speaker karaoke, and art room activities, all monitored and staffed by volunteers through the Foundation along with DMH and Foundation employees. | - | - |
