“The standard of behavior at peace in schools (pins) is that all staff, volunteers, and board members scrupulously avoid conflicts of interest between the interests of the pins on one hand, and personal, professional, and business interests on the other. This includes avoiding potential and actual conflicts of interest, as well as perceptions of conflicts of interest. I understand that the purposes of this policy are to protect the integrity of pins decision-making process, to enable our constituencies to have confidence in our integrity, and to protect the integrity and reputations of volunteers, staff, and board members. Upon or before election, hiring, or appointment, i will make a full, written disclosure of interests, relationships, and holdings that could potentially result in a conflict of interest. This written disclosure will be kept on file and i will update it as appropriate. I understand that the purposes of this policy are to protect the integrity of pins decision- making process, to enable our constituencies to have confidence in our integrity, and to protect the integrity and reputations of volunteers, staff, and board members. In the course of meetings or activities, i will disclose any interests in a transaction or decision where i (including my business or other nonprofit affiliations), my family and/or significant other, employer, or close associates will receive a benefit or gain. After disclosure, i understand that i will be asked to leave the room for the discussion and will not be permitted to vote on the question. I understand that this policy is meant to supplement good judgment and i will respect its spirit as well as its wording.”

“Teen program year-end outcomes and impacts for 2023-24: 8 portland public high schools received our direct service teen programming: alliance at meek, cleveland, grant, ida b. Wells (ibw), lincoln, mcdaniel, metropolitan learning center (mlc), and roosevelt. At comprehensive high schools, this class is either a semester long or year-long course, depending on the needs of the school. At alliance at meek, pins programming is provided as an elective course and a supplementary support for incoming students in their orientation program. 318 students completed our mindful studies elective class, the most in- depth, mindfulness-based course in public high schools nationally. Our latest 2023-24 course-end surveys show that mindful studies improves: self compassion 93% of students agree: "because of mindful studies, i have more compassion for myself." 90% of students report: "because of mindful studies, i am better able to accept myself." emotional regulation 94% of students report: "because of mindful studies, i am better able to calm myself down when strong emotions show up." 92% of students say: "because of mindful studies, i am able to respond and not react to tough situations." 89% of students say: "because of mindful studies, i am better able to deal with my stress." belonging & relational skills 92% of students agree: "because of mindful studies, i feel like i belong more around my peers." 93% of students agree: "because of mindful studies, i am better able to understand and care about the feelings of others." 86% of students report: "because of mindful studies, i have better relationships with my family and friends." resilience 92% of students report: "because of mindful studies, i am better able to bounce back from challenges." see full report here: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/62d6cda90352313c39cb720e/t/66c8a2809 481b661e24 1d50e/1724424833240/peace+in+schools+23%3a24+year+end+report +.pdf mindful studies partnership program (mspp) inaugural cohort in september 2023, pins launched the inaugural cohort of the mindful studies partnership program, which trains high school teachers to offer peace in schools mindful studies. As an integrated for-credit course for 10th-12th graders. This 3 year partnership centers teens and encompasses the entire high school community. In 2023-24, pins: partnered with 6 new schools in oregon and california el cerrito hs, ca fir ridge hs, or gresham hs, or nw academy, or west linn hs, or wilsonville hs, or introduced mindfulness to 347 staff introduced mindfulness 530 students taught 14 demonstration classes at new schools 9 newly certified mindful studies teachers (150 hours of in-depth virtua and in-person training) resulting in: 448 students forecasting enrollment in mindful studies fall 2024 curriculum approval in 5 new school districts 100% of school administrators would recommend mspp to other schools 100% of teachers would recommend the mindful studies teacher certification after 8 months of training, our teacher trainees showed statistically significant increases in their mindfulness in teaching (p=0.00002) and self-compassion (p=0.0002) compared to average pre-training baseline assessments, demonstrating that our training works to improve teacher embodiment of mindfulness and self compassion. Adult programs: peace in schools offers a variety of programming for adults. Some offerings are open to all, others are more specific to educators.
