| DUE TO AMERICA'S PROMISE ALLIANCE | $51,305 |
“First focus does not have any committees that act on behalf of the governing body.”
“First focus hires an independent accounting firm to prepare the federal form 990. Upon receipt of the draft federal form 990, it is internally reviewed by management and then distributed to the full board of directors prior to filing with the internal revenue service.”
“The campaign reviews all contracts and agreements for connections to the board members. If a conflict were identified, it would be reported to the president, who would in turn bring the conflict to the board of directors attention.”
“The staff of the campaign are employed by america's promise. The audit & finance committee of america's promise approves the use of a bi-annual salary compensation survey based on at least three independent surveys. The audit committee, serving as the compensation committee, reviews and approves the compensation of the officers and key employees based on an annual report derived from at least three independent surveys prepared and presented to the audit & finance committee. The compensation committee approves the use of the survey data. The decision is documented in the minutes of the audit & finance/compensation committee. The last compensation review was conducted in december of 2015.”
“Governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements are available upon request of the secretary-treasurer.”
“The campaign has entered into a cost-sharing agreement with america's promise alliance that provides for sharing of personnel, administration and equipment costs. The two organizations function with a common mission and share common management, but operate as separate entities with separate board of directors. Therefore, in accordance with the irs instructions, the america's promise alliance will not be disclosed on schedule r as a related tax-exempt entity.”
“The campaign evaluated its uncertainty in income taxes for the years ended december 31, 2016 and 2015, and determined that there were no matters that would require recognition in the financial statements or that may have any effect on its tax-exempt status.”

THE CAMPAIGN'S PERSPECTIVE STEMS FROM THE REALITY THAT THE MOST EFFECTIVE POLICIES FOR CHILDREN OFTEN ARE THOSE THAT REACH ACROSS POLICY SILOS. THE CAMPAIGN RECOGNIZES AND APPRECIATES THE MULTIDIMENSIONAL NATURE OF CHILDREN'S LIVES. FOR EXAMPLE, ALL ASPECTS OF A CHILD'S LIFE: QUALITY OF EDUCATION, ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE, AND EXPOSURE TO CHRONIC POVERTY, CHILD ABUSE OR LEAD POISONING ARE INTERLINKED, AND IN TURN, POLICIES TO ADDRESS THEM SHOULD BE DESIGNED TO INTEGRATE SERVICES WHERE APPROPRIATE. THEREFORE, THE CAMPAIGN IS COMMITTED TO PURSUING A CROSS SECTOR APPROACH TO POLICYMAKING TO ENSURE THAT FEDERAL POLICIES ARE ABLE TO MEET THE DYNAMIC NEEDS OF CHILDREN.STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS - ONE OF THE UNIQUE CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE CAMPAIGN TO THE CHILDREN'S ADVOCACY COMMUNITY IS ITS COMMUNICATIONS EXPERTISE. THE CAMPAIGN WORKS TO LEAD THE CHILDREN'S ADVOCACY COMMUNITY IN MESSAGING, ADVERTISING, AND E-COMMUNICATIONS. THE CAMPAIGN HAS BUILT STRONG RELATIONSHIPS WITH REPORTERS FROM OUTLETS ACROSS THE NATION. WE UTILIZE THOSE RELATIONSHIPS TO PITCH STORY IDEAS, PROVIDE EXPERT POLICY ANALYSIS/COMMENTARY, AND PRODUCE OP-EDS AND LETTERS TO THE EDITOR. IN ADDITION TO OUR RAPID RESPONSE CAPACITY, THE CAMPAIGN HAS GARNERED A REPUTATION FOR PRODUCING EYE CATCHING, INNOVATIVE, AND THOUGHT PROVOKING ADVERTISEMENTS. THE CAMPAIGN CONTINUOUSLY SEEK TO ENHANCE ITS CAPACITY TO BE A RESOURCE TO ADVOCATES, POLICYMAKERS, THE MEDIA, AND THE PUBLIC.GRASSROOTS ADVOCACY - TO CREATE A STRONG, UNIFIED, AND CREDIBLE VOICE ON CHILD AND FAMILY POLICY, THE CAMPAIGN GAUGES INFLUENTIAL INDIVIDUALS, ORGANIZATIONS, AND POLICYMAKERS IN THE STATES. OUR STATE ADVOCACY EFFORT CONSISTS OF WORKING WITH DIVERSE STATE COALITIONS IN AN EFFORT TO PRESS FOR IMPROVED PUBLIC POLICIES FOR CHILDREN. THE CAMPAIGN ENGAGES STATE GRANTEES BY COLLABORATING ON LEGISLATIVE AND POLICY SIGN ON LETTERS, BY PLACING STATE AND LOCAL OP-EDS AND LETTERS TO THE EDITOR, BY HELPING TO LEVERAGE STATE LEADERS' RELATIONSHIPS WITH MEMBERS OF CONGRESS AND CONGRESSIONAL STAFF, AND BY ASSISTING IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF COMMON COMMUNICATIONS AND MESSAGING FOR CHILDREN'S GROUPS. | IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 0 | FIRST FOCUS DOES NOT HAVE ANY COMMITTEES THAT ACT ON BEHALF OF THE GOVERNING BODY. |
| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 1 | FIRST FOCUS HIRES AN INDEPENDENT ACCOUNTING FIRM TO PREPARE THE FEDERAL FORM 990. UPON RECEIPT OF THE DRAFT FEDERAL FORM 990, IT IS INTERNALLY REVIEWED BY MANAGEMENT AND THEN DISTRIBUTED TO THE FULL BOARD OF DIRECTORS PRIOR TO FILING WITH THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE. |
| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 2 | THE CAMPAIGN REVIEWS ALL CONTRACTS AND AGREEMENTS FOR CONNECTIONS TO THE BOARD MEMBERS. IF A CONFLICT WERE IDENTIFIED, IT WOULD BE REPORTED TO THE PRESIDENT, WHO WOULD IN TURN BRING THE CONFLICT TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS ATTENTION. |
| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 3 | THE STAFF OF THE CAMPAIGN ARE EMPLOYED BY AMERICA'S PROMISE. THE LAST COMPENSATION REVIEW WAS CONDUCTED IN DECEMBER OF 2015. |
| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 4 | GOVERNING DOCUMENTS, CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY, AND FINANCIAL STATEMENTS ARE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST OF THE SECRETARY-TREASURER. |
| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 5 | THE CAMPAIGN HAS ENTERED INTO A COST-SHARING AGREEMENT WITH AMERICA'S PROMISE ALLIANCE THAT PROVIDES FOR SHARING OF PERSONNEL, ADMINISTRATION AND EQUIPMENT COSTS. THE TWO ORGANIZATIONS FUNCTION WITH A COMMON MISSION AND SHARE COMMON MANAGEMENT, BUT OPERATE AS SEPARATE ENTITIES WITH SEPARATE BOARD OF DIRECTORS. THEREFORE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE IRS INSTRUCTIONS, THE AMERICA'S PROMISE ALLIANCE WILL NOT BE DISCLOSED ON SCHEDULE R AS A RELATED TAX-EXEMPT ENTITY. |
