“Activities report for 2017 summer program - 2017 our summer theater program was a 1-week adaptation of the tortoise and the hare, facilitated by the missoula childrens theater group. Thirty five youths participated. Through a number of grant and individual donor efforts, we underfunded the program and made it available to all participants at a very reasonable cost. This approach was chosen because, during 2015, play needed to increase the total number of new (to us) kids who were exposed to theater and encourage them to become committed to being involved in plays programs. In 2017 play continued marketing its summer program to more groups who work with at risk youth with the intention of moving away from competing with the private high schools for participants and giving youth who often do not have a chance to experience theater an opportunity to do so. We continued our partnership with one orphanage that focuses on keeping sibling groups together. Fundraising and income play took steps to increase its fundraising, targeting individuals who have given small amounts consistently in the past and getting many of them to increase their amount. We also identified additional known to the trustees individuals, most of whom had never given, and received first ever donations from them. Our private donor target list is growing. Play received the last installment of its first ever memorial gift, in the name of a student who did a lot of theater with us and passed away in early 2015. The donors gave 2,000 in 2015 and in 2016 and then gave the remainder in 2017. Play dedicated those funds to scholarships for youth who could not afford our programs and raised 2,000 in matching funds. We will raise 2,000 in 2018 and in 2019 to finalize our commitment to the memorial gift. Expenses in order to ensure operating in the black for 2017, play liquidated all of its set and costume assets and cancelled the storage unit we have rented for 10+ years. Its monthly costs are now as low as possible and all income can go to program and the last small amount of debt created during the 2016 program, excepting that no philanthropic funds would be used to cover debt. Unique and challenging theatre projects for kids 3605 north pole loop rio rancho, nm 87144 play continued to operate as an all volunteer organization where administrative, fundraising and other indirect costs are concerned. Our earned income and donated funds are all directed at the costs of providing exciting and excellent theater for youth.”
