In 2023, 17 high school students participated in a summer scholars program and 8 high school students participated in a career explorers program during the academic year. In 2023, as part of the eighth annual broad scientists in the classroom program with cambridge public schools, broad scientists visited grade level classrooms and worked with students throughout science units. Broad served approximately 406 students throughout this initiative. Broad volunteers mentored 40 students in the bio-coding club designed to engage 6-8 graders in the field of biology. Also in 2023, broad particpated in several educational events throughout the local community. Broad scientists participated in talks and presentations to various groups across the community such as cambridge city council candidates, high school educators and high school and undergraduate students. Broad hosted educational events such as steam it up, computer science playground, a cambridge science festival booth, and take your little broadie to work day, reaching approximately 571 students. Broad scientists also lead 9 educational tours during the academic year with appoximately 227 students in attendance. To help inspire young people and offer opportunities to students interested in biomedical research from across many backgrounds, broad offers programs for individuals at different stages of their education and careers. In 2023, 25 high school students, 24 undergraduate students and 6 faculty members participated in these programs.”
