“In alignment with c4s mission, the most recent 2024/25 season sought to enrich artists and audiences through passionate advocacy of new choral works: performing pieces written within the last 25 years, premiering and commissioning new choral works, and mentoring emerging singers, composers, and conductors of todays choral music. C4 promotes the creation and performance of new choral music by composers from around the world and works with students to continue that tradition into future generations. The fall 2024 cycle focused on world premieres, featuring the participating composers of c4s premieres choral composition workshop; the winter 2025 cycle involved a collaboration with brooklyn youth chorus, themed around science, space and the universe; and the spring 2025 cycle focused on works for choir, amplified instruments, and electronic music-making. The 2024/2025 concert season was intended for c4s audience of general music lovers of all ages. Woven into the rehearsal processes leading up to these six performances and recordings, c4 offered a series of educational workshops and meet the artist events open to the public. C4s intention and purpose is not simply to present new music to new audiences, but to draw those audiences into collaboration; to invoke full participation as opposed to simple appreciation.c4s 2024/25 concert cycles featured six in-person concerts, along with a live-streaming option for audience accessibility. During the fall 2024 concert cycle, c4 presented two concerts of world premieres: the first concert in october titled premieres i: exhale, and the second concert of the cycle in december titled premieres ii: inhale. Featuring the participating composers of c4s premieres choral composition workshops. The pieces performed were rehearsed over the duration of a workshop, and the participating composers received feedback from c4 members. The culminating concerts featured a composer/audience talk. In support of c4s commitment to diversity, the ensemble prioritized selecting pieces for this cycle written by under-represented composers. In the winter 2025 cycle, c4 performed works by non-c4 composers and c4 composers in collaboration with the grammy award-winning brooklyn youth chorus. Musical content was themed around science, space and the universe. Compositions included physical impossibility: a jewish reflection on scientific mystery by karen siegel, and turing believes machines think by gordon hamilton. For the spring 2025 cycle, c4 presented a concert featuring works for choir and electronic instruments. C4 hired professional instrumentalists to perform the pieces that prominently featured parts for amplified instruments, including but not limited to electric bass, electric guitar, and electric violin. Musical content included a composition titled rockquiem with movements composed by the following members of the c4 collective: brian mountford, zoe marie hart, hayes biggs, perry townsend, and mario gullo.together, these efforts reflect a season grounded in artistic innovation, educational exchange, and intentional community building. Through ambitious programming, strategic partnerships, and a deepened commitment to inclusion, c4s 2024-2025 season not only expanded the reach of new choral music in new york city, but reinforced our role as both stewards and catalysts for the future of the art form.”
