“ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW On December 1, 2019, LiveConnections.org ("LC") became the sole member of Real Entertainment-Philadelphia, LLC, the owner and operator of independent music venue World Cafe Live. The combination of the operations of the two organizations resulted in a 327% increase in budget and a significant increase in earned revenue from ticket sales, culinary, private events. Moving forward together under the name World Cafe Live ("WCL"), our combined organizations are committed to being a place where artistry meets social impact. In a typical year, we will serve 150,000 guests through ticketed concerts, free education programs and private events. Our core values of music, learning and community are reflected across our three program areas. LIVE MUSIC AND CULINARY EXPERIENCES Last year, we presented 320 ticketed events, serving 26,900 audience members. We aim to build a continuum of arts access and opportunity for emerging and established artists in the Philadelphia region. Our free events celebrate underrepresented music traditions, explore the culinary arts, and elevate new voices in our city. WCL continued our free, monthly series like Jazz Jam with Omar's Hat and Viernes Calientes Latin Dance Party. These events are supported by a wide range of food and beverages offerings from our onsite team. We also had several culinary focused events including Jam-Ba-Liva, a love letter to NOLA cuisine. On March 13, 2020, we closed our doors to the public due to COVID-19, forcing the cancellation of all live music and culinary events. As a result, we took a leadership position as we engaged in coalition-building with partners across the U.S. with the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA), co-founded by WCL President Hal Real. We formed streaming partnerships with promoters and independent venues like Le Poisson Rouge in NYC and UC Theatre in Berkeley, CA, enabling us to offer national artists to our community. PRIVATE EVENTS Last year we hosted over 60 rental events with local businesses and community partners including the University of Pennsylvania, GURU, University City District, Philadelphia Gay Men's Chorus, BlackStar Film Festival, and the Philadelphia Zoo. We aim to support our earned revenue model by using open calendar dates to create a one-stop shop for events of all types. With three floors and two separate spaces, we can accommodate events ranging from 50 to 800 guests. Our dedicated events team can provide clients with unparalleled event planning services, including customizable menus and full-service audio-visual needs. EDUCATION In December 2019, after more than a decade of building collaborative education programs together, longstanding partner LiveConnections.org became the owner of WCL to form a unified operation. This combination allowed us to deepen our longstanding initiatives and launch new programs. From June 2019 to June 2020, 91% of our participants were public school students, grades 2-12 and 9% were individuals with disabilities. Prior to the shutdown from COVID-19, we presented 27 free Bridge Sessions, interactive performances at WCL, serving 3,074 participants attending from 21 schools and community organizations. Our Bridge Sessions highlighted the work of 43 teaching artists from multiple genres, including a new Bridge Session called "Immigrant Grooves" exploring diverse music traditions reflected in the immigrant and refugee communities throughout our city. During the pandemic, we provided "Bridging the Distance," an online video archive of Bridge Sessions with curricular tie-ins for teachers and accessibility partners. In 2019, Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute chose us as its partner for the Philadelphia launch of its acclaimed "Lullaby Project," pairing singer-songwriters with new parents and caregivers to write songs for their infants. We had just begun the pilot of this project in March 2020 and had to pause due to the pandemic. In July, we re-started, and virtually over Zoom”
