“Mission statement: our mission is to provide the global community with the information needed to drive thoughtful, science-based conservation, to educate and train the next generation of conservation scientists, and to make lasting contributions to the natural world through critical thinking, innovation, and ground-breaking research on birds. Additional information about cc: the center for conservation biology inc (ccb inc) is a supporting organization for the academic institution known as the center for conservation biology at the college of william and mary. Ccb inc builds needed funds to support institutional needs, student research, and current research program needs at ccb. All funds collected by ccb inc are used to directly support research, conservation,and education programs primarily managed through the academic organization.”

“Research programs: ccb research projects support the broader conservation community on a daily basis. Research findings and products are used to develop wildlife policy, to implement management strategies, to protect imperiled species and to manage at-risk populations. Research and management activities during 2024 have included deploying transmitters on bald eagles around military installations, have surveyed nesting eagles across four states, have surveyed more than 1,000 pairs of osprey within the chesapeake bay to better understand reproductive deficits related to atlantic menhaden, have initiated a tracking study of willets throughout their annual cycle, have managed the federally endangered red- cockaded woodpecker population in virginia, have managed the state endangered peregrine falcon population, have conducted targeted habitat work with wayne's warblers in the great dismal swamp, have worked with winter marsh sparrows in georgia and have worked with many passerine species. Since the fall of 1992, ccb has completed 1,000+ projects throughout the western hemisphere focused on making the world a better place for birds and people.”

“Education programs: ccb's education programs focus on undergraduate and graduate training, public outreach, and public engagement and citizen learning. Since the fall of 1992, ccb has involved hundreds of university students in direct research. In 2024, ccb supported 6 undergraduate students to participate in field projects. Ccb biologists made several public presentations to public and research audiences. These presentations have covered a diverse range of topics that provide timely information to move conservation awareness forward. We have contributed to more than 25 media stories focused on public outreach on sensitive conservation topics. We have published several articles within scientific journals that have contributed to the management and research communities' understanding of species of conservation concern, public policy, and land-use. We produce a quarterly electronic newsletter that is distributed to more than 10,500 individuals and a printed annual report that is mailed to more than 700 individuals.”
