“Ride for reading's mission is to promote literacy and healthy living through the distribution of books via bicycle to children from low-income neighborhoods.”

“Book deliveries via bicycle - once per month we deliver books to children in title 1 schools. A representative from our organization talks to the children about the importance of literacy, helmet wearing, and a healthy lifestyle. Each child is able to choose 1 - 3 books to take to keep or pass along to a friend. As part of the book delivery, we also host book sorting events where volunteers come to our warehouse to help us clean and sort books by grade level for the upcoming delivery. Over 1,500 volunteer hours were used carrying out the book delivery process.”

“Annually, we coordinate "national ride for reading week", a week in may in which we encourage cyclists across the country to bring our mission to their towns by hosting a book delivery to a title 1 school. We help with logistics, and we provide the donated books and pay for shipping expenses. Ride for reading week mobilizes hunderds of volunteers across the country each year.”
