“The designers accord is a global coalition of designers, educators, and business leaders working together to create positive environmental and social impact.”
“Youth intervention: we conducted our second "creative power day" in 2017. Through our youth creativity program, we engaged more than 600 students aged 8-11 in vancouver, canada, mill valley, ca, san francisco, ca, oakland, ca, cleveland, ohio, boston, ma, cork, ireland, oslo, norway, and mumbai, india. Trained volunteer facilitators conducted 22 one-hour creative power workshops during school hours in 5 countries. The workshop included hands-on activities and discussion, and the highest ranked skills learned by students were self-efficacy, resilience, and openness to new ideas. We are currently discussing options for scaling the program with different partners, and the aspen institute remains a major supporter of the program.”
“Thought leadership in open innovation: our mission is to engage the community around important topics related to the social responsibility of design. This year we have focused on describing the benefits of open innovation. Open innovation is a powerful mechanism for building community, creating new solutions, and educating the general public about important topics. We focused deeply in this area, especially as related to technology. We used design leadership to build a network of entrepreneurs to connect rural villages in south africa, brazil, and india to the internet. We created a platform for connection and collaboration, a library of resources for entrepreneurs, and potential channels for funding. All materials were provided to the public through creative commons licensing.”
“Expert consultation: the designers accord remains a central resource for ngos and corporations as they integrate pro-social creative strategy into business leadership. We provided executive advisement and facilitated workshops to help build internal capabilities in organizations. Our primary focus is on "training the trainer" in systems thinking and design thinking. We engaged with two large retailers, a leading fintech non-profit, two healthcare leaders, and three data startups.”
