Mission
Protect sharks and rays by educating people about why sharks are important to healthy oceans, campaigning to end shark fin soup consumption, and working to create sanctuaries.
Major Activities
- Activity 2
- Education and program communications:shark savers has developed and maintains one of the foremost website sources for information about sharks and shark conservation that is visited by over 200,000 people per year. We disseminate information and updates to our subscribers, representing tens of thousands of people, via email newsletters, facebook, and twitter. We produce presentations to enable volunteers to educate people of all ages about sharks and rays, their importance to the environment, and the severe threat to survival that they face.
- Activity 3
- Shark sanctuary program:shark savers' shark sanctuary program creates marine areas where sharks are protected by strong laws and enforcement with the full engagement of local communities. While we work to stop the consumption of shark fin, sanctuaries can keep critical shark habitats out of bounds of the shark fin trade. Shark savers has been instrumental in creating the raja ampat shark and ray sanctuary. We are currently working on additional sanctuaries.
