Mission

The dream corps is a social justice accelerator. We back initiatives that close prison doors and open doors of opportunity for all.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Education and outreach:through green for all's green the block campaign, hosted a water day of action (with over 65 actions across the nation), designed to educate youth about water shortages and pollution and inspire personal action around water use.*partnered with hip-hop icon wiz khalifa on a keep it fresh tour to encourage fans to adopt a sustainable lifestyle.*developed a water wiz trivia game and advocacy photo booth for education and outreach efforts carried out on tour with wiz khalifa throughout the south and southeast and at the life is living festival on the west coast.*developed and coordinated the green economy track of workshops and panels at power shift 2011.*designed and disseminated a water brochure and related curriculum to demystify the water cycle and its connection to the water system.*trained 25 fellows as trainers of the roots of success curriculum; fellows in turn trained over 500 community members.*hosted a roundtable of 40 environmental justice, climate change and green economy advocates and organizers at the united nations conference of parties in durban south africa.*launched the green for all fellows fund and funded 11 grassroots leaders to carry out sustainability projects locally.*launched the second iteration of the college ambassadors program, expanding to 15 historically black colleges and universities and training and coaching 30 student leaders on the green economy, public speaking, training their peers, and carrying out their own green campus initiatives.*graduated the 4th class of green for all fellows (after completing 9-month terms of service) and ushered in the 5th class, training and coaching 25 more local green economy leaders.*launched the "what the (bleep) is the green economy?" educational video and facilitator's guide.
Activity 3
Policy:*promoted our strategy for helping ex-offenders re-enter the workforce, including releasing our report, "green strategies for re-entry" and hosting an event with congressman andre carson and partner recycleforce, in indianapolis, indiana. Deputy mayor of indianapolis, michael hubert, gave opening remarks at the press event, and recycle force manager, andrew king, gave a heartfelt testimony about his personal journey as an ex-offender and how recycleforce gave him a chance when he struggled to find employment after his incarceration. *promoting investments in water infrastructure and sustainability, including hosting an event with congresswoman donna edwards (d-md), which highlighed how investments in water infrastructure create jobs and protect the environment. The event featured the congresswoman nancer stoner, epa acting assistant administrator for water, gary belan from american rivers, and mayor robert kearns from the town of edmonston, maryland. The occasion for the event was the one-year anniversary of edmonston's innovative "green street" - an initiative that upgraded the town with low-energy street lamps, bike lanes, permeable pavement, and rain gardens, creating roughly 70 jobs in the community. The event also garnered support for h.r. 2030 green infrastructure for clean water act of 2011. *partnered with naacp to defend epa protections for clean air and water, including a partnership with naacp around the epa's mercury and air toxics standards (mats) - the first national standards to regulate the amount of mercury and toxins from coal and oil-fired power plants. The mats toolkit provided education and advocacy information to help communities organize to support the standards.*promoted green pathways for philadelphia youth with an event featuring congressman chaka fattah and partners the philadelphia youth network and the corps network. The event highlighted the corps network publication, "a green career pathways framework: postsecondary and employment success for low-income, disconnect youth", which was developed in partnership with green for all, and over 30 organizations.
