“The form 990 is completed with the assistance of our independent auditor and is reviewed by the executive director, coo and the audit committee to affirm accuracy. The form is then sent to the board of directors for review before submission to the irs.”

“Staff members sign the personnel handbook upon hire, which details policies. Our office manager reviews all policies as part of our standard onboarding procedure. All staff are responsible for reporting any conflicts of interest as stipulated in the handbook. When new board members join the organization, they are required to review all board documents including the conflict of interest policy and then sign an acknowledgement to abide by them, including reporting any conflicts of interest to the organization. Annually, board members are required to reaffirm their understanding and compliance by completion of coi disclosure form. The executive director and the board chair and/or the governance chair regularly review board activity as it relates to encounter's work and invoke the conflict of interest policies as part of assessing whether a prospect is right for our board and/or whether a board member's activity constitutes conflict of interest.”

Encounter is a nonpartisan educational organization cultivating more informed and constructive jewish leadership on the israeli-palestinian conflict. We enable deeply committed jewish influencers to encounter firsthand the people, perspectives and challenges at the heart of the conflict. Our programs inspire new perspectives, new conversations and new approaches to the conflict. We are building a diverse jewish leadership network across religious and political lines. At encounter, we believe jewish leaders have a responsibility to engage seriously with a diverse set of voices to enhance our understanding of the dynamics that animate the israeli-palestinian conflict. Where israel was once a unifying jewish communal force, the subject of the conflict is now one of the most divisive and polarizing in american jewish life. Our community needs leaders who can engage differently. Encounter believes our capacity to do so is acutely enhanced by meaningfully and directly engaging with the people with whom israel is destined to share its future - palestinians - as jewish leaders, in the company of peers. Encounter's programs fill an essential, but often missing, piece of education for jewish leaders who care deeply about israel, the american jewish community and the relationship between the two. Through our immersive education programs, selected influencers are invited to travel to the west bank and east jerusalem to join a carefully curated cohort of jewish thought leaders from across the religious and political spectra to meet with a wide range of palestinians - from civil society and business leaders to negotiators and grassroots activists, together and to consider the implications of what we learn for american jewish life, israel, the palestinians and the interdependent relationships among them. Our continuing education opportunities build on the relationships forged in our immersive programs, and forms the basis for access to new perspectives, new networks and new approaches to the conflict.”
