Openid foundation is a nonprofit international standardization organization of individuals and companies developing, promoting, and evolving openid technologies. Formed in june 2007, the foundation serves as a public trust organization representing the open community of developers, vendors, and users.

Openid foundation is a standards development membership organization that secures and defends the intellectual property of the openid technology protocols, facilitates the innovation of openid and related open identity, open source specifications and technologies, and promotes the global adoption and enhancement of openid technology.

OIDF WORK GROUP LEADERS ATTENDED AND SPOKE AT GLOBAL IDENTITY EVENTS ABOUT OPENID AND THE WORK OF THE FOUNDATION TO INCREASE AWARENESS AND ADOPTION OF OPENID SPECIFICATIONS AND WORKGROUP EFFORTS. THE OIDF ORGANIZES THESE WORKSHOPS ADJACENT TO GLOBAL INDUSTRY EVENTS TO PROVIDE GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE AND ENCOURAGE PARTICIPATION. THE OIDF CONTINUED TO DEVELOP DIRECT AND INDIRECT RELATIONSHIPS IN 2017 AND 2018. OIDF ENTERED A FORMAL LIASION AGREEMENT WITH THE FIDO ALLIANCE TO CONTINUE TO DEVELOP COMPLIMENTARY STANDARDS. OIDF ALSO WORKED WITH OPENATHENS AND THE REAL ESTATE STANDARDS ORGANIZATION TO CONTINUE TO DEVELOP THE OID CERTIFICATION PROGRAM TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THESE TWO ORGANIZATIONS. OIDF ALSO WORKED WITH THE OPEN BANKING IMPLEMENTATION ENTITY IN AN INFORMAL CAPACITY TO CONTINUE TO DEVELOP THE OIDF FINANCIAL-GRADE API (FAPI) PROFILE AND ASSOCIATED CONFORMANCE TEST TO ENABLE FAPI CERTIFICATION. IN 2016, OIDF STARTED REVIEWING AND UPDATING IT'S MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT AND RELATED DOCUMENTS TO BETTER ALIGN WITH THE FOUNDATION'S CURRENT MISSION AND WORK. IT HAD BEEN OVER 7 YEARS SINCE THE LAST UPDATES. AS PART OF THIS EFFORT, IT WAS DETERMINED TO CREATE A NUMBER OF FOUNDATION POLICY'S THAT WOULD BE STAND-ALONE VERSUS EMBEDDED IN THE MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT. THESE NEW POLICIES INCLUDED: TRADEMARK USAGE POLICY, DIRECTED FUNDING POLICY, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS POLICY, AND WEBSITE PRIVACY POLICY. THE OIDF BOARD APPROVED THE COMPLETED WEBSITE PRIVACY POLICY AT THE FEBRUARY 2, 2017 BOARD MEETING. THE REMAINING UPDATED MEMBERSHIP AND POLICY DOCUMENTS WERE APPROVED BY THE OIDF BOARD OF DIRECTORS IN JUNE 2017. THIS COMPLETED THE UPDATING OF THESE IMPORTANT GOVERNANCE DOCUMENTS.
