“Any person qualified by education, occupation, experience, or background in science, to further the purposes of the society shall be eligible for active membership. There shall be two types of memberships: active and student affiliate. Applicants for active membership in the society must be sponsored by an active member, approved by the executive council, and shall become active upon payment of dues. All members of the ssp must reside in areas which include: all counties in pennsylvania, ohio, west virginia, maryland, virginia, new jersey, new york, and delaware. Membership outside of the geographical region may be determined on a case by case basis. Ssp members who move outside of the geographical membership area may retain their active member status by paying annual dues and updating their contact information annually. Dues are waived for emeritus and honorary members, who have achieved such status prior to 2021. These membership categories are "grandfathered". This status will no longer be granted to existing or future members. A student affiliate is any student enrolled as an undergraduate science major, that includes chemistry courses in any college or university. Students shall remain student affiliate members for as long as they remain in an undergraduate study program, after which they may apply for regular membership. High school students may be invited to apply for student affiliate membership, provided that they are currently juniors or seniors in high school and have exceptional capabilities as demonstrated by one or more of the following: scholastic achievement gpa (>3.4/4.0), regional or national science competition participation (pjas, prsef, isef) or educational outreach service. Attendance to monthly meetings by high school students may only be virtual. Active memberships will be voting memberships. It is the responsibility of the secretary to maintain a listing of emeritus and honorary members.”
